How long should I wait?

Hi guys,

How long do you have to wait when you receive an confirmed production from chinese manufactures? I have asked several factories to prototype some of my designed products. They were all very positive at the beginning, responding emails in one or two days! But once recevied my samplling fee, things are completely different!

They made a promise to finish the sample within 20days initially, but when I asked after 20days, it took 1 week to get a response and basically it says they need another 2 weeks..O_o!

I have planned most of the steps in UK already, and left 2months gap for unexpected situations like this. But, what should I do to speed it up a bit?

Is this something very recent, if so the delay could be due to Chinese New Year which ALWAYS has an effect of 2-3 weeks delays due to workers dissapearing back into the countryside.

I deal 100% of the time through my agent in China. From price discussions to delivery T`s & C`s he does it all. Worth his weight in gold so as a suggestion for future deals like yours it may just save you a lot of time and hassle.

Thx for the advice! It is very recent, the sampling started right after the chinese new year holiday, 8th Feb. Guess I just have to be paient then. Would it be too late I find a agent now?

Never too late to find an agent in my opinion but I do understand the cost implications. Depends on the scale of your business and the amount you intend to do with China in the future.

Also, from the 8th Feb doesnt seem too long actually considering your " parts " will more than likely be hand-made prototypes ? Hard to tell without knowing what they are. Depending on courier they could also take 10 days to arrive on your desk.

If you truly get stuck let me know, I may be able to get my agent to throw some weight at it for you.

firstly, I feel sorry for you. secondly, I want you konw the person the contact himself(herself) may not be boss, he(she) can not put his hand on the business, so you need to talk to the boss or someone superior

If you are looking at a long term relationship with your suppliers then I think you need to get out there and meet the people you are doing business with on a regular basis.

Like everything else it's not what you know but who you know, and generating good business relationships with your suppliers is very important to a successful partnership.

What type of material are the parts to be made from?

Plastics: Die Mold has to be made, fairly long process up to two months because Die Mould factories are VERY busy...

Metals: Within a week typically, at the most two weeks, they have a very fast turn around.

I am a supplier from China,Maybe I can tell you why,well,I am trying.
First suppliers promise you everything gonna be ok is not cheating,bc they really really wanna receive orders from you.and they really really wanna everything perfect.Then why?Bc those powerful suppliers will place your order to other small suppliers,unless you are a big buyer and big enough.They are too busy to finish your order.
Small factories mean low costs,Big one make money from defferentials.All they do is make phone calls as a buyer like you:when will you finish my order?Small factories delay and then big one delay.
You can find small one too,but it's hard to win your trusts,cuz it's small,you think they cant do that.I am so sorry to tell you that maybe your gorgeous items were made by hands of village woman.
Unless your products are concerned "high-tech" sector,they cant do that.
In our city,ten people can armed as a factory,so small factories are everywhere.Some of buyer may say:they can do what I want? Yes,they maybe cant speak English,but they really can do it fast and quality.All these small factories need is a person who can speak English.I would find a small supplier to start my business if I were you.For you own and future sake,go to China and make friends with someone,there will be high profit waiting for you.Go and find not so big one for yourself.
This just is a part of "Made in China" story.

I’m from London but moved to China some years ago where I now live, I deal constantly with Chinese factories, suppliers and am heavily involved in product development and QC , I’m interested in helping people with issues regarding development and QC and am generally interested in hearing peoples stories both positive and negative.

I am from china ,as far as i know,most factories attach importance to cooperater,first,you should tell them your Intentions and the aftereffect if they do not cooperate;second,if you business go along in the normal website,you can appeal ,it will be punished searious.

How long should I wait? I have the similar trouble.

More than one year ago, After I graduated from university for half of one year, I cooperated with one company for one year. I signed the contract for one year. The contract was dued in April 30,2011. But now is Auguest, I have not get the money yet. The general manager promised me so many times,but never did what he promised. He kept promising that he would transfer me the money the day or the day after the day from the beginning. More than three month went, I still do not get any money. Now he promises that he will do it today, but I know he will not transfer me money today.

So how can I do? Always promise a word ,never do in deed. How long should I wait? I go mad! How I deal with such a general manager.
