How do I set up a 'contract'?

Hi

I currently work from home, offering computer services to home users. I would like to offer my services to business' too.

Is there any advice anyone can give me about setting up a contract, as I have no idea how to write one up. Also, how do I 'bill' my business customers, with a monthly contractual amount or direct debit the monthly amount?

DD is better quarterly in advance would be better still.

Re contract, we provide them as part for our service and have a proposal / contract template for your support offering.

Your other option is to beg a copy from someone you know who has a support contact because you do not want to be reinventing the wheel.

i think you could find info in i-net and find a sample how to write up a contract, also you may buy a book on howto make uo a contract, there are dozens of them. A help of a professional is also regarded

The home computer service I used to use gave a first initial 1hr diagnostic free and then sent an invoice for an annual contract, which included a certain number of call outs for sorting out computer problems and also an annual computer 'spring clean'. They had a different price structure for business or personal computers. Maybe that sort of set up would make it easier for you to manage?

I would strongly advise drafting a contract yourself especially if it is a maintenance contract because you will need some tight clauses to protect you and your business i.e. backing-up, intellectual property, security, retain the title to parts fitted until full payment etc.

Direct Debit - there is a set criteria to set this up with your business. Standing Order is the best option. The payment method should be mentioned in the contract along with other payment related clauses i.e. late payment, interest for commercial debts, etc
