Bexleyheath, Kent.
Hi,

I have very little if any, understanding about SEO, I offer a local service repairing double glazed windows and doors.

www.thewindowwizard.biz

The Window Wizard (TM)

Please could someone explain, the best method of getting my website, higher on google for my local areas???

Also any feedback on my website is appreciated.

google adwords is def your best bet if you are targeting locally. Your cost wont be very high for terms such as 'double glazing kent' etc. you could be on front page tomorrow. Organic placement will take longer

Thank you for your fast replies.

The "360 Trades" website is not really used at the moment.

I was only really referring to the www.TheWindowWizard.biz site.

The areas I want to target are:

Abbey Wood, Albany Park, Bean, Bexley, Bexleyheath, Belvedere, Blackfen, Blackheath, Bluewater, Brands Hatch, Bromley, Charlton, Chislehurst, Crayford, Darenth, Dartford, Eltham, Enysford, Erith, Greenhithe, Greenwich, Grove Park, Hextable, Hither Green, Ladywell, Lee, Lewisham, Longfield, Meopham, Mottingham, Northfleet, Otford, Plumstead, St Paul's Cray, Sidcup, Slade Green, Stone, Swanley, Swanscombe, Thamesmead, Welling, Wilmington, Woolwich.

Dave,

There are loads you need to change to improve your website with regards to onpage factors. For one of my sites, I rank no.1 AND no.2 (Double listing) for a number of areas near me. It is not too hard to get top geographical rankings. It does depend on how competitive your field is though. If it is only geographical searches you are wanting to target, then ensure that your site is tightly build around your areas.

For starters, optimize your title and description, on all pages, and make sure they are unique to each page. Remove your top graphic, and replace the wording with real text, not images. The SE's cannot read images.

Bold various phrases, add H1, H2 tags etc. Create a little bit of internal contextual linking... apply the nofollow tag to pages that you do not want to assign PR to. And more importantly.. add some more content, maybe a few 'unique' articles on windows and doors. Write about some fo the faults etc to look out for on aging double glazing etc.

Then start gradually building a few quality backlinks, and create your offpage anchor text near to a targeted description of what you do, and name a few of the areas that you are wanting to target.

Hope that helps.

Andy

If I search google with "The Window Wizard" I am not listed.....not in the first 20 pages anyway...I gave up after p20.....

But

If I search google with "The Window Wizard Bexleyheath) I fill the first page:|

Or

"Window Repair Bexleyheath" lists me on the first page of Google.

But

I only get approx 6 to 8 unique visits per day, on my site:redface:

So

Do I need to change anything ?

?

You're on page 2 google for me! Re. Unique visitors, its the quality of the visitors that count - I get less than you (because my trade is so niche) but what I do get tends often to convert to orders. But, I would say, given the quite big area you are covering, the fact that you're getting so few suggests that something is not right. I'm not qualified to comment further about your site really but would say, its probally a good idea to get someone to look over it and see whether its seo friendly for starters - in getting that someone, you need one of the members here that consistently stands out as knowing whats what.

Edit -- If I were in your shoes and was serious about my site bringing business, I'd be looking at paying someone to sort the site out once and for all. I should imagine you'll get this done for around £300 depending on whats wrong, which is a tiny price to pay to get a website functioning on Google as it should

Hi Dave. I'm new to the forum world and have just registered on a few sites today to see if it could drum up some new business for us. I've read your query and all the responses and everyone seems to be giving you genuine and good advice. It's a minefield but I'd agree that Google Adwords 'Local' would be a good place to start but as that's PayPerClick the quality of your site's build from an SEO perspective is less critical but your natural listing positions depend on it.
Our company (skylightmedia.co.uk) specialise in web development and for years we have proviced our clients with SEO services, but this started becoming an unprofitable chore so we have now started using a specialist SEO company. FirstFound (You may have heard of them) concentrate on link building and direct SEO work. We started using them after one of our clients was approached, as we wanted to prove their worth, and they've improved our positions in many keyword areas. Have a look at firstfound.co.uk & give Andrew Wilson a call on 0161 909 3400 and say I sent you. Their service doesn't cost that much and in your industry I'd say that if it got you one more decent job a year it would comfortably pay for itself. Good luck.

Find what from here? Anyway, scroll down.

Problem is, as you have discovered nobody types in 'window repair bex...etc' not enough people anyway.

The first thing you need to be focused on is adding your site/service to as many directories as possible (ones that have local listings) eg http://www.gumtree.com/ and craigslist.org BUT you really need to be adding yourself to 10 to 20 local directories per day to have some impact. Big list here: http://webmaster.bwdp.org.uk/directories

to be honest, right now i dont have time to look at your site, got some things to complete. Will check over your site and think about what you could do tonight if i remember.

10-20 diretories a day may get you noticed by the google spam police be wary

Well, i think it probably depends on the quality of directories, i dont just mean any old thing. Anyway, that link i posted to the list is pretty safe i think?

Lets not confuse directories with link farms ;)

[edit]

I think his type of business demands directory listings. Directories that actually are used by people looking for his service anyway. I do agree thou that my initial 10 to 20 per day was over exagerated. Just look for quality directories.

Anyway ill check over the site and see what i can come up with (suggestions) from your sites point of view.

ok checked out your site: http://www.thewindowwizard.biz

1. First things first, get to gumtree.com and craigslist.org and submit an entry for:

Abbey Wood, Albany Park, Bean, Bexley, Bexleyheath, Belvedere, Blackfen, Blackheath, Bluewater, Brands Hatch, Bromley, Charlton, Chislehurst, Crayford, Darenth, Dartford, Eltham, Enysford, Erith, Greenhithe, Greenwich, Grove Park, Hextable, Hither Green, Ladywell, Lee, Lewisham, Longfield, Meopham, Mottingham, Northfleet, Otford, Plumstead, St Paul's Cray, Sidcup, Slade Green, Stone, Swanley, Swanscombe, Thamesmead, Welling, Wilmington, Woolwich.

HOWEVER, i suspect you can only make 1 listing on each site, you better check it to avoid spam.

2. The domain name, although its got your company name in there, its a .biz. Not very easy to
a domain such as that high in the search engines (for popular terms and not just your business name).
Not saying its impossible, just not ideal but can be worked on as its got 'window' in the domain.

3. Title / keywords / Description:

<title>Window, door repairs | KENT | SE LONDON</title>
<meta name="Keywords" content="
window repairs, door reapairs, kent, se London, window wizard" />
<meta name="Description" content="Window Wizard repairs and works with doors and windows based in Bexleyheath, Kent " />

Now, thing to think about is which keywords your going to target, which will determine your
SEO strategy (including what you put in your title/meta keywords/description).

Considering your limited to 20 keywords per page, you really need to split your site into more pages.

For instance, a page for door repairs, you could use some of these as keywords:

DOOR REPAIRS

* Hinges
* Panels
* Handles
* etc.........

Also a page for window repairs: (by the way this div is out of alignment)

* Hinges
* Handles
* Air Vents
* ......

Also a page(s) for your areas you cover:

Abbey Wood, Albany Park, Bean, Bexley, Bexleyheath, Belvedere, Blackfen, Blackheath, Bluewater, Brands Hatch, Bromley, Charlton, Chislehurst, Crayford, Darenth, Dartford, Eltham, Enysford, Erith, Greenhithe, Greenwich, Grove Park, Hextable, Hither Green, Ladywell, Lee, Lewisham, Longfield, Meopham, Mottingham, Northfleet, Otford, Plumstead, St Paul's Cray, Sidcup, Slade Green, Stone, Swanley, Swanscombe, Thamesmead, Welling, Wilmington, Woolwich.

So basically, what im saying is you need to expand your site, and use each page for specific keywords.

Anyway i hope you get the jist, that would only be the start of the seo work, theres tonnes more but i would go into pages and pages about it on this thread.

If you want to contact me seperatly (PM) feel free. But its alot of work, especially your target audience.

Anyway, ill leave that food for thought.

Another thing I would suggest. If you are targetting a local traffic then its best to use a .co.uk domain as it tends to rank higher on your local google search.

Getting backlinks will the best way. And to get backlinks you can submit all your articles to digg.com and for only a few hrs your site will get indexed.

I was in yr position about a year ago. I got 2 sites written in joomla which is an open source software, which is very google friendly, and I am now on the first page in google for many keywords. My sites are blazeuk co uk and hygienius co uk. I have just got a site done for my cousin it is gbmot co uk . This site cost £120 for the template and three years hosting. The small bit of content it has on it has been done by his daughter as she learnt joomla during the last week. Because it is in Joomla you can edit it really quickly and easily from any computer. I spend about ten minutes per day editing each of my sites and that keeps it in the top 5 for dozens of keywords. If you type in Chafing Fuel Welling you will see my site top, this is mainly because apart from being open source (i.e. free) and easy to edit, Joomla also works really well with Google. Joomla has managed to get over 1000 pages indexed for my hygienius site. From my experience you would get top three for searches for 'double glazing welling' or 'd'g' swanley' etc after about three months with a couple of hours work per week. This guess is based on my results, I'm not an expert but speak from my own experience. Let me know if u want more help.
