hotukdeals.com / HUKD

Hi All,

How are we all doing? It seems form recent traffic stats that hotukdeals.co.uk is fast becoming a top 10 UK shopping site and gets a huge amount of visits per day.

The site seems to be an effective affiliate channel, have you had any success with it? Is it something your business is focused on? Given that it's community driven is it something you can really influence?

I know some people are not a fan of the site but I would be interested in hearing peoples thoughts (sometime more than "that site's ****" would be great).

Thank you

The problem with HUKD is that you can't as a business, post your own items, it needs to be submitted for you (by someone you don't know) or sent to the HUKD team who will add it themselves if it's a good deal.

Most posts on there are for larger businesses as they have the financial muscle to have the cheaper costs and be on an affiliate scheme so HUKD can make money from their "deal". Posts do go up there for sites with no affiliate scheme but they are rare.

Most posts are found by the general public either by viewing other deal sites, coming across them on other websites or by finding it instore (tesco etc).

The chances of a small business getting on there is rare tbh as HUKD verify all new businesses on there e.g.

- Is the website run by a limited co
- Are they VAT registered
- Where are they based
- Do they have any testimonials
- Is the website secure (SSL)

They will do literally hundreds of checks before allowing a new website to be promoted on the site.

As a business promotion tool, it's not a good place to get listed, your website will get swamped with thousands of visitors (seen many sites gone down when been posted on there) and they are only after the cheapest item you have.

If you put up an error e.g. iPad for £50 instead of £500 you will get hundreds of orders and if you delete the orders (obviously) the members will round on your business leaving nasty testimonials and even threatening the business owners.

I used to use HUKD and was doing work for them hence why I know so much about them.

Have always wondered this myself as a frequent HUKD user. I can totally understand why they would perform such thorough checks as I can imagine the website would be flooded with deals from unknown companies.

I once posted about my money saving blog in the HUKD forum, I got almost 1000 visits in 24 hours from that 1 link. INSANE. I'm not sure they allow that anymore though, depending on the context the link is used.

Had some posts made for my own products on there ...massive sales/traffic lift - but you do have to have a tasty deal as there are some real, clever price detectives frequent there! (also, they'll spot you a mile off if you just register to post you're own deal!)
