Help please!

Having some serious issues with my e-commerce website. We can't see the site and the sales have dropped like a stone today. The host tells me that the site is fine and it must be our computer, but I can see from the stats that there must be an issue.

I could do with some reports from around the uk!

Could you kindly check the following domain and let me know if it works?

Seems you might have DNS issues - I can't resolve the name to an IP form here (ISP: Virgin Media)

there shouldnt be any DNS issues unless it's a resolver problem

from your whois record it looks like you use CSnewmedia as your host and there are 4 Dns resolvers for csnewmedia ns1 to ns4

unless it was a problem with one of their web servers

Webservers are fine (89.238.132.175)
And I can ping that IP from here (so not a routing issue)
I just can't resolve www.matryoshkarussiandolls.co.uk to any IP

I'm rusty on nslookup, but if anyone can tell me what to do, I can try to diagnose.

Could it be an ISP issue?

I went to three internet cafes in central London today and 2 out of 3 showed the site as being down.

It's still down for us here, we have no email, no ftp, nothing.

That URL says not all of CS New Media servers are providing a response, which could possibly explain it, but shouldnt really cause this problem.

Actually, I can't even access http://www.csnewmedia.co.uk/ 0 so it's not a problem specific to your domain

I know they had some DNS disruption yesterday afternoon, but this was supposed to have been fixed.

Carl has always been spot-on with hosting and support.

Could the old DNS information be running from cache at Virgin? If so how soon can I expect them to update their records?

Quite possibly. Sod all you can do but sit and wait.

it could still be an isp problem it could be one of the hops from provider to provider and one of the routers (not the type you have at home much bigger) may have failed and hasn't been redirected properly/at all

all trafic is routed differently depending on provider/location

ermmm... most isp's will have been notified already that there's a problem however it's the weekend so most will not really shift till monday! (sorry to be the bearer of bad news!) however with a bit of good luck the problem will be fixed in the morning

however at 29 hours it should be fixed already (unlesss it's a pretty big problem

try going to command typing NSLookup ({Yourwebsite address}) and pressing enter

this should then give you a pretty good indication at what point it's not resolving

Do I have no choice other than to sit here and wait?

Won't go into the details, but a simple nameserver change has rectified the problem and all is now well.
