Hello,

I want to start a dropshipping business on eBay. Can somebody please clarify some things for me?
1. Is 1000$ enough to start and fulfill orders for the 21 days that PayPal has you in its jail?
2. Who is someone good from the UK that I can study from ?
3. How much can you make per month if you do it all yourself (sourcing, customer service etc).
4. How much will it be left if you hire VA`s?
Thank you very much

Best course is the one that starts 'Don't do it'.

Margins are low, risk of loss due to returns is high, finding unique products is extremely difficult.

Find unique products, buy a few and sell them.

    1. Depends on the product. But you could spend far more than that on marketing.
    2. No idea.
    3. Anything from £5 to £5000. Depends on how good your marketing.
    4. Probably nothing.

Unless you already know how to sell and have excellent marketing skills your chances of success are very low.

Are you already an experienced eBay seller?

Drop-shipping is difficult to get right. In theory it is easy...

    • find a company willing to do it
    • list the items on ebay
    • when the orders come in, send them to the dropshipper who sends them to the customer
    • once you are through the probation period eBay will pay you the same day for sales. If this 21-day holding period is enough to make it unfeasible, then probably not for you anyway. Any new business needs starting capital and this is about as cheap as it gets
    However, there are issues...
    • companies with stock to dropship are often not manufacturers so you will be at a disadvantage (your supplier will have to mark items up when a manufacturer will not)
    • drop-shippers will often tout the same products to lots and lots of sellers, so you end up with loads of competition
    • their stock control can be unreliable. They may have a low number in stock and then 10 different people sell them at the same time so they have to let some of them down. If you cancel orders after the eBay customer has paid you will get flagged and your account will be suspended if you disappoint customers too many times.
The principle is pretty straightforward so (unlike Amazon), you can probably get all the info you need from Google/Chat/Youtube, etc.

I would also bear in mind that in the last 10 years, eBay has sunk like a rock. For example, for every eBay sale I make, I get at least 50 Amazon sales. People buy what they want on Amazon and tend to sell what they don't want on eBay. It definitely has its place and if the kids want a new phone we will always get a good used one on eBay. But all our day-to-day stuff is bought on Amazon and its the same for millions of people.

Someone told me that I can use my personal account on eBay. Is that True? And an eBay seller told me that he doesn`t even use PayPal.

I wanted to start a PayPal business about 8 years ago, but the fact that there was a 21-day money hold was what stopped me from starting my business then.

This is the reason why i want to start again, it`s because there is not longer the 21-day PayPal hold. You use either something else or your personal Paypal account

You get paid every day now - sales less fees straight into your bank account. Technically there is no reason why you can't use a personal bank account but it isn't advisable. If it gets to a decent size you will have a nightmare separating out your business expenses from your personal stuff. It is pretty cheap and straightforward to get a Tide/Monzo/Starling account set up (Monzo seems to be the easiest at the moment) and then everything is kept separate.
