Have you got a cold yet?

Over the last week or so i have developed a chesty cough and a runny nose. I always seem to get ill during Christmas time.

It makes it difficult to concentrate while working but the one benefit of it is that i now have a good excuse to get out of any family meetings over Christmas.

Garlic! If I get that heavy-headed feeling that accompanies the onset of a cold or the flu I break off a clove of garlic and eat it raw. It tastes vile (of course), but it has never failed to prevent me from being ill...or engaging anybody in conversation.

The other great advice I can offer (from somebody who very seldom gets a cold) is to drink freshly squeezed orange juice as often as you can during the winter months. It's an excellent natural source of Vitamin C and will build up your immune system when you need it the most.

I also very rarely get colds.! I work in an unheated workplace and that makes a difference IMO. I can be at home and feeling a bit mushy then go to work and as if by magic I feel better so Gillie is right in what she says re. temperature. Another reason for cold after cold again imo is being run down. people work themselves into the ground then wonder why they fall prey to every bug going....

Aye but "colds" are not caused by being cold.As mentioned above it is people spreading the virus via sneezing and bodily contact.
I got some disease aftre using the Paris metro.Foreigners all coughing and sneezing in that confined space.I got home and had to go to bed for three days.
The worst experience I have had.

I get colds pretty often and a runny nose. i tend to know when i get one as my throat plays up a bit and sure enough its the early stages of a cold for me, each morning i take cold and flu tabs before and during work and usually after about a week of sniffing it clears up. I've never had a day off because of a cold and i seem to beat it by plodding on

When i used to take public transport i would be ill probably 5 times a year. Some of the colds you can catch are utterly evil, they turn you into a zombie where all you can do is sit and watch tv and sleep.

The less mass human interaction you have in confined spaces the less likely to are to fall ill.

Haven't had a cold in years. Try Tai Chi - none of the people who I do it with have colds. Thought it was a bit of an urban myth but it just seems to keep the bugs away.
