An opportunity and idea has come up! I have a reasonably large unit in a very busy location which would be absolutely ideal for a car wash. There's enough room outside to wash several cars with an in and out roundabout system, an indoor area to do valeting with room for 3 cars and a waiting room with kitchen and loo.

The only trouble I have is I've no idea about the running of one!

Can anyone give me rough figures of through put?

What regulations are involved concerning dirty water?

How easy is it to find employee's?

Any help is gratefully received

Your through put will depend on where you are situated, busy main rd loads of business, side street not so much unless marketed well. Wet monday mornings you'll get nothing, dry weekend after wet week....loads.
Call your council/water board re water/dirty water, electricity board for power. There will be hoops to jump through though...
Employees are easy to find, good ones not so easy.
Visit other good car washes and take notes. Dont think that by being cheap and undercutting others will increase your business, it wont.
Corporate uniform is a must. Clean, presentable, well lit drive in area.
Offer a valeting service with local collection and delivery. Insurance.
Offer a loyalty scheme. Leaflet large car parks, industrial estates, hospitals, shopping centres etc etc
Get the best equipment and chemicals, it's your livelyhood.

I can't go into specifics of running one as, well, I don't them haha

But one thing I will say is to make sure you 100% do a good job every single time, I know this should go without saying but it's amazing how many poor car washes there are.

There is a car wash local pretty close to us that I know people are more than willing to travel 20 minutes to as they ALWAYS do a good job.

Car's aren't cheap, do a bad job, scratch a car or anything like then people will no about it, fast!
