Im not sure how to describe this but will do my best.

I have 2 entries on google/google maps. Long story but I originally had an office in one place, we then set up an agreement with a local solicitors and I set up another place there.
The original entry has 26 reviews, the second only has 1. The agreement with the solicitors did not work out, I did not know how to close it so just left it.

I then moved offices to a new place during covid and I updated the address on the one with 26 reviews.

Now google has automatically updated the one with one review to also be at the same address.

Guess which one predominantly shows up on google and google maps!

I can log in and just click delete on the one with 1 review, but I am worried it might some how affect the main entry.

I spoke to an SEO I know and he said it should be ok, but sometimes google does what it wants and it could go wrong...

I just want to get a second opinion before I do anything I suppose.

I'm actually going through this process with UKBF's business listing, which is still shown on the past owners old address, they aren't there any more.
I've decided to delete the duplicate listing and I believe, as your SEO said, it should be fine - but if it doesn't work out I'm not too worried about losing the reviews ;)

Whatever you do has a risk, only you can decide

What I would do is remove the address from the one you don't want displaying, change the name to your new trading style one and set it as a Service Area Business

Hopefully the other one will then outrank it.

The problem is, when you change anything, someone at Google may see them both, assume you are trying to game the system and suspend them both.

    Unlikely, but it does happen.

Can you update the address on the duplicate to be the same as your current one, or did you already do that? When I tried to set up a second business place at the same address so I could promote different aspects of my services, google really didn't like it, and told me I had to pick one or the other and get rid of one. It was about 8 years ago though, so things might have changed.

Sorry I read it properly and google updated it to the same address, move along, nothing to see here.
