Im looking to get a stand in the big diy stores B&Q, Homebase etc, I havent ever tried to do this before and before I approach them id like to hear if anyone here has any experience in dealing with them, there T&C's, rates, insurance cover etc

It would just be a stand promoting our service were we would take names and numbers of people interested, there would be no direct selling involved in the store.

So before I start making a few calls to them on Monday I'd like to have some idea as to what they will ask. So if anyone has done similiar your help would be very appreicated.

Nothing specific, but if you have an ideal target in mind, start with one of the others to refine your pitching technique. And be prepared - they'll want to make sure they're not open to any lawsuit from endorsing something, so all your regulatory / compliance obligations in place or being planned, and insurance. And documentation to prove this.

You'll also need to make sure your advertising is ASA compliant, you have relevant licenses to conduct your business, and samples of all the promotion you're looking to carry out in the store.

Then I'd get on linkedin and try to find the general manager's name, but there may be a better way. Good luck!

B & Q are pretty approachable and usually the manager has full descretion. I have seen Double Glazing stands for example although B & Q sell dg units.

Depending on size of store and small counter display expect to pay about £250 - £350 a day and yes you can approach customers as long as you don't hassle them.

What im hoping is having a stand in one store for about a month and then other store in a different town for another month and so on, if it is down to the manager of the store then that should be pretty straight forward I thought it would have to be put through head office and was I looking forward to that!

There is no problem with any of our promotion stuff its all our own, inregards to approaching customers I want to have the stand located at the exit just after the tills so when people are leaving we can ask are they interested in what we offer etc, as I said before there will be no selling instore just taking names and numbers of intereted people who will later be contacted by phone.

Would like to hear from people who have done similair, what insurance was required?, did you find it worked for your business?
