From retail premises to party plan

Hi,

I will try to be as brief as I can,

We have just written to our Landlord, giving notice on our rental lease. We have also asked him if he would consider allowing us to leave our agreement early, so that we may close our shop asap - our get out clause matures in March 2012. The reason we have asked to leave early is because my wife has become deeply depressed due to our failing business.

We have just obtained a small warehouse space, where we will continue to sell online & build this side of our business up, we are also interested in Party Plan, although know nothing about it, or how we would go about setting it up.

We sell Baby & Children's clothing & accessories up to age 8, although we feel we will probably concentrate on Baby clothing, goods, toys & bedding.

My sister is very interested in giving the party plan idea a go, but how do we work out a salary for her? I understand the hostess generally gets 10% of the party sales.
Can someone give me some advice please?

Thank you

Regarding the landlord - unless you can line up another tenant for him, I very much doubt that he'll let you leave the lease early. Vacate, yes. But not pay the last 7 months rent? Only if you're lucky.

Regarding the eBay thing - good idea to get rid of surplus stock.

Regarding the party plan - I'd leave this until your wife is feeling better. She's suffering from depression, and starting up a new business will only add more stress. You might say it was the shop that caused it, but I bet she was really excited and hopeful before it opened? That same excitement and hopefulness for party planning seems familiar, no?

Give her a bit of time to recover. Get her concentrating on developing the eBay store and listing items etc. and see how it goes. You don't want to jump out the fire and into the frying pan.

Best of luck.

:)
