Hi all,

I'm planning on migrating from FreeAgent to Xero, purely because Xero has better integration with the majority of the tools we use and. Overall, will save me a load of time. Nothing wrong with FreeAgent but the integration is lacking.

Has anyone done this, and have you used a service such as Movemybooks?

I'm also on the lookout for a new accountant as my current accountant works exclusively with FreeAgent, which is a shame as they have been great. I am also looking for any recommendations on accountants for small businesses that support Xero.

Movemybooks is good if your records are sound. If you have a messy set of books in freeagent it may be worth transferring a clean trial balance rather than transferring data across.

Most accountants use Xero now, there are several on here and you can check for Xero practices with a quick Google.

Thanks for te input! Our books are clean, and I'd only look forward to bringing in the current and last financial year. I think we have about 10 years of data in FreeAgent. I'm hoping they have a maintenance or read-only option to keep it running for reference.

They only transfer 2 years of data AFAIK. I would download as much data from freeagent as possible, trial balance, nominal ledgers, audit trail etc.

We have and do. However, for ease of access having a copy of our historical data in FreeAgent is also something we are looking at. For example, if a client wants a statement of account from the last 3 years.

Thank you for confirming this. I suppose I need to contact FreeAgent once we are fully setup with Xero to switch to this?
And once you've set up your new account, you would need to drop us an email at [email protected] so we can mark your original account as read-only. You'll still be able to see all your data but you won't be able to make any changes to it.

If you want to PM or email me I'm happy to refer you to a fellow accountant I know who supports Xero.

Hi Adam,

We are a partner practice for both FreeAgent and Xero and have completed such switchovers for other clients in the past who's business has outgrown the FreeAgent features.

If you are still looking to switch software and accountants then feel free to reach out for a free initial consultation to see how we can help with this transition.
