Hi
We're running a free live teleseminar on
How to bring More Traffic to Your Website
on Monday 28th July at 7:00 pm
Website uk have been advising on web sites for over 7 years and
would like to give free tips and pointers to members of the Uk business forum
http://www.websites-uk.com/general-sales-page.htm
I've put together some easy starter steps you can use to take maybe
20 minutes to look at your website and see if you can improve it for the
search engines, in particular Google.
If you run through these you'll know what do yourself, or ask your web guy
to do or at least know what to say to an search engine company,
(if you ever get one of those calls.)
<b>1. Go to google and enter this line
site:www.yourdomain.com </b>
(yourdomain is your actual domain eg www.johnsmith.com)
You'll get a page showing all your pages in google.
The titles are in Blue and bolded.
Now if they are the same words for all your pages, change them !
Make them relevant to that one particular page
Eg if that one page is about "childrens shoes" then the title should refer
to childrens shoes
And so on for each page.
If you leave duplicate titles on all pages, google will discount the value
and you get no ranking power from them
Also, here's a common error.
Don't start the title tag with the name of your company
Start it with the keywords "Childrens shoes" for example.
There's a video demo of these points here.
Video runs at the bottom of the screen.
<b>2. Make links between your pages in text</b>
Often sites go purely for visual appeal.
Fine, but what is really going to help your pages is if they
are linked to with text which is preferably a keyword
So in our example, if we are linking to childrens shoes
then the pages linking in, should have a text link
If this is not possible due to the graphic design of your site,
consider adding a smaller menu at the foot of your pages
formed purely of text links
Hope this gives UK Business Forum members some food for thought
