Free Accounting Software

Can someone please recommend any free accounting software?.
I'm currently using one called Express Invoice, but as my business sells items using part numbers and I can't find an option to show part numbers on the invoices, it makes this less than ideal.:|

VT cashbook is free but doesn't include a facility to create invoices.

Think you may struggle with free software.

With respect you may find spending a few pounds on software is money very well spent.

there are plenty of invoicing software packages you can purchase that support displaying item codes on the invoice if you are prepared to spend up to about £100. I suggest you go for a free trial of some of them.

I mean no disrespect but speaking from experience spreadsheets have a really nasty habit of getting messy. They are often OK initially but as time goes on they tend to get hard work and the time (and hassle) you save on spending a very small amount on proper software will be money really well spent.

How much does a basic sage package cost now? We never sold it and now I don't deal with then at all but it must be cheap.

Programs like Solar cost about £125, and do not need to be updated every year. Even over one year, that's only £2.50 per week. What value do you put on your time?

If you use spreadsheets, they will not fit together and present information in the best format for preparing final accounts. There is also an excellent chance (I've seen it too many times) that errors will creep into the sheets, and sorting those out will cost you a lot more. It's false economy.

Penny wise, pound foolish. You won't have that attitude when you find yourself with a corrupted data file and no technical support to get yourself out of trouble.

have a look at www.waveaccounting.com It's free, has invoicing and seems pretty professional. It is US based but works in pounds with vat too.

I have no idea about the ramifications of using this though regarding data protection etc.

I have done my own Excel spreadsheet, and it works very well, separate tabs, colours, blocks, formulas.. and it works. so at caddesignworks.co.uk I do it my self.

I second the recommendation for Wave Accounting. Wave is great for invoicing.
