Flyer Distribution Laws??

I'm attempting to set up a new business with minimal advertising costs. I live in Blackpool, Lancashire and am unsure if it's against the law to place flyers on car windscreens in car parks. I'd also like to know if distributing to private homes is against the law.

As far as I'm aware, placing flyers under car windscreen wipers is illegal, as it constitutes "tampering" - and you are not allowed to tamper with someone's vehicle. (In order to get the flyer under the wiper, you need to lift the wiper - a process which may damage the wiper, so it's "tampering").

Putting flyers through letter-boxes is OK.

You also can't flyer on a carpark which is on private land, as they'll av ya!

All sorts of issues, some mentioned above as in tampering, trespass etc but most risk these days comes from the local Council who fiercely police the environement and mess that flyers on windscreens cause. The penalties for this are high in terms of fines and makes for a very expensive littering start to your business.

This is a very interesting post.

Where is the best place to distribute flyers legally? Apart from people's doors.



I've received some flyers that was placed on my windscreen.

Go to stores that are someway releated to your business and stand at the exit, chances are they will have to stop and wait, ask them if they would like a leaflet..

Get some professional ones though dont print your own.. or get borchures printed.
