Flower show competition entries

Hi all, I am the show secretary of a large, regional flower show.
People enter their fruit, veg, bakery,photos etc and compete for prizes.
We need a new online shop where they can register their entries before the show. I see this as an online shop where they buy an entry for (say) courgettes, flowers, scones etc. Each entry costs 50p.
We have about 400 classes (products), and we normally get around 2500 entries (purchases) from 400 competitors (buyers).
The entries (orders) would then come to me for processing into the competition database.
I am looking for recommendations for simple online shop software that would meet these requirements.
Our website is wordpress, if that helps.

Just use woocommerce.

There are extensions you can use to bulk upload all the entries (products) making setting up the store very easy.

If you get stuck or need help ask here as there are loads of Wordpress experts who can get you sorted.

I would be worried about what affect payment processing fees have on each 50p entry?

I have had a look at WooCommerce and installed it. It seems to want to produce a page per item, understandable for a webshop.
What I am looking for is a "shop" even all the products shown as a list on a single page, maybe with dropdowns to expand the selection.
Exhibitors then can just tick all the classes they wish you enter it maybe an "add to basket" against each item.
Then there would be a checkout button for when they are done.
It's this possible with woo?

Sort of. But it’s a bit of a fiddle and will probably need some additional code.

A custom plugin would solve your problem. Easy to build and not too expensive.

With WooCommerce, not sure it out of the box, but use options - select entry (product) and the entry category (option).

Or use an event plugin?

Thank you. Sometimes it's just a single word to send you off on the right direction. "Event" I suspect will do it. What I am "selling" is much more like tickets than products in a shop.
I will investigate event plugins. Any recommendations?

I’ve been doing some investigation and can’t find anything that’s going to deliver what you want without all sorts of modification and add-ons.

Which brings us back to the custom plugin. I’ve got one with the payment portal built in (we use it for our car club). Modifying it to use for flower shows isn’t a major undertaking.

You could put OpenCart in a sub-folder or sub-domain, or you could use WooCommerce. We'd be happy to help with either. If you go for OpenCart probably stick to version 3.0.4.0 at this point.

You could also use a membership plugin, with each category a member level.

However, having something developed bespoke will mean it will do exactly what you want.
