finding a straightforward simple (!) EPOS solution for a small, independent retailer

Hi to all in this first post of mine!
I'll apologise straight away as I know from other threads I've searched through that this is a real old chestnut but, frankly, I'm tearing my hair out :| EPOS for retail (*covers head to avoid missiles!) I thought I'd got it sorted when, after speaking several providers, including IR & a smaller, fairly local concern, the local company came out, gave us a good demo & seemed to talk common sense about an appealing lease-based system. One week later, however, and after speaking to 2 of their established customers (suggested by the engineer who came out!) who have both told me the company are far from reliable in terms of contacting & support, I'm back to square one. :|
I have 1 independent outdoor & sports shop plus a very new (& still experimental) e-commerce website and a small (& also still experimental) ebay store. I currently use a Samsung 5200 till with barcode scanner then stock control is done manually via our own spreadsheets on Google with all info fully backed-up via Cloud. BUT I am spending far too much time just on stock control, managing my web database & trawling through info for ordering. I desperately want a simple, affordable lease-based solution (I'm concerned that I.T. moves on so quickly that I'd like to be able to upgrade as required) that will be appropriate for the large range of lines we stock within clothing, footwear, camping/walking equipment, fishing tackle, cycling accessories, sports goods, books & maps......etc. and will also allow me generate useful reports for streamlining/improving the business.
What really appealed about the relatively local provider (Shrewsbury-based to our mid Wales location) was the personal touch rather than the national hard-sell approach we've had from others who've quoted.
Ok, ramble over - can anybody help??

Hi

Not sure if we can help but, we have recently launched a fully integrated EPOS solution that is lease based and specifically developed for use by SME Businesses, either at start up or established.

More importantly we would manage the whole process including the merchant account provision, user training and effectively provide a turn key solution rather than having to engage with 5 -6 different vendors to deliver a solution.

We have a comprehensive suite of s/w to manage the key functions which is web based so can be accessed from any device that is internet enabled. We are also working on an API to enable the solution to interact with shopping carts thus meeting the growing demand for a common stock control solution for both physical and web based shops..

The solution is built around the Bleep plc technology, as used during the 2012 Olympic Games last year.

Please have a look at www.paymentsense.com/epos and if you like our proposition please PM me and we can start a dialogue with you.

Kind regards

Mark

It's definitely worth investigating a product called iZettle, who have recently launched in the UK and offer a very clean and easy solution. Alternatively, Paypal's 'pay with your face' system is currently being tested in Richmond upon Thames - if you look at the Paypal blog it tells you more about this. Hope this helps :)

Sorry how does this address the OP's original query re EPOS solutions as iZettle is a micro payment system for taking debit and credit card payments on a PAYG basis and the PayPal trial requires a bunch of dedicated (I believe ) proprietary s/w and h/w in addition to your existing EPOS / till solution to work..

Apologies if I have missed something however

Apologies LMDServicesUK - my understanding of iZettle was that it allowed for inventory management :)

No need to apologise !

It is a mobile credit and debit card payment system which works with a hand held card reader via Blue Tooth, and you then have an app on your smart phone that processes the payment.

It may well be possible to interface to an EPOS system, but it is not an EPOS solution in itself.

Have a look at AirPos.
They will do a sales demo over Skype if you are interested. I use the basic functions, and am very happy with it. I'm not sure if the full version will do everything you need or not.

Belinda - can I ask what type of products you sell, just to know if yours are anything like the clothing, footwear, sports products we sell both in-store & online?

We use Wasp quickstore. Easy to set up, and one off cost for the software (iro £300). Put it together with a windows PC, TM881 receipt printer, barcode scanner and cash drawer off ebay, and away you go. It is originally american, but system is designed for "apparel" - ie product inventory has facility for size & colour options. We found it really easy, but the tech support (not that we've needed it much) can be slow to answer their phones, and we have not found any way to integrate it with on-line sales. Fine for a shop.
