FB business page - new terms?

I have recently been made aware that FB business pages now have to pay to have ALL their posts shown in the news feeds of all the people who 'like' their page. Is this true?

Apparently only random posts will appear in news feeds unless the person who likes the page select that all posts are to be displayed.

Can someone shed some light on this?

The reach of organic posts has been going down for some time and was averaging 3% of your followers would see a post.

The changes are specifically aimed at promotional posts. If you want to promote products to your fans, facebook has made it clear you will have to pay them, regardless of your followers settings.

So each time you want a post to be viewed where it includes promotion of products/services you'll have to pay, the amount you pay will determine how many people see it.

Can you increase this by asking people who like the page to change their settings?

No.

FB will show a selection of posts in news feeds, people who like lots of things are unlikely to ever see your posts - unless you pay. And the more people that pay, the less of your posts will be seem. Unless you pay more.

This is why Social Media marketing has such a poor ROI.

There is no longer a setting available to show all posts.

All marketing has good ROI, as long as you do it right. Things change, marketers need to adapt.

i have really gone off facebook. Nothing to do with business i just don't see what my friends/people have liked are doing as i did in the past, this makes it hard work to get a quick update. I also find a lot of people no-longer post any updates etc. is the novelty wearing off? Cant wait for the next new thing and Facebook dies.

They'll never do it across the board. They have shareholders to consider. The advertising income is always going to be bigger than the subscription fees they'd receive.

Google Contributor will be a telling sign as to whether people are willing to pay for an Internet without ads. I doubt it when you can get AdBlock Plus for free.

Agree with fisicx.... don't make it as if you knew what FB would do next please - unless you tell us you are senior management from FB and want to leak some top secret of their business strategies. everyone in UKBF can make a fortune by trading in stock market for this great news.

It is just unfortunately true that paid services (promotional posts/ads) from these service providers are born to be more marketing effective if you have a decent budget in place

I recommend all my clients visit the page, rather than wait for it to show up, but I use it mostly for photos of our current dogs and cats, so their owners want to see them. I do post up other bits and bobs, and have in the past posted events that are paid for (ie dog training workshops) so I can share them on the groups for dog enthusiasts. I'm not sure if they will still be allowed, or if I'll be charged, but it's a minor part of my marketting anyway.

That's right. You can spend money buying 'likes' and then spend more money paying so that more than a couple of percent of those users actually see your businesses posts!

Facebook wants people to friend and like a lot of things. It can't show users everything all those friends and pages post so it needs to filter them, and why not filter by who is willing to pay...

People don't post their "status" anymore (twitter for that) most posts are people sharing crap videos or articles so your promoted posts will be lost among all the other stuff shared by the users friends.

I only use facebook (personal) to help organise events with friends, I never look at their pages or read the newsfeed anymore.

I have never really posted a status, but I'm basing my thoughts on the majority of my friends list, which is quite varied and active, not saying people don't but it is becoming less and less status updates and more videos and shares, making promoted posts harder to distinguish at a glance, as i think most people will skim the newsfeed rather than looking at every individual update. Nothing based on facts here just my own thoughts and observations
