I have a personal facebook account that I use fairly regularly. On my PC the password is saved and for many, many months I have just opened the page. Last week I got a message that my password was wrong. I entered the right password and again got the message. So I went through the palaver of changing my password. As I finished I got an error message - try later. I tried later and got a message you have tried too often, with 2 options CANCEL or TRY AGAIN. Seemed a bit weird, however after a couple of days and again got the tried too often message. No indication anywhere of what to do.

In the meantime, on my phone which has the same original password for the same facebook account as on my PC, I can get access without any problem.

Any suggestions about how I get access on my PC?

    1. It may happen that your PC was used by someone else and he / she has been logged out of your account to log in to his account or maybe it happened because he / she deleted cookies, deleted history, temporary file, etc.
    2. The second thing may happen that you were entering your password by kept capslock on.

The first is not possible. The second does not explain why the cached password stopped working on the PC but is still valid on my phone. If I enter the cached password manually on my PC I get a message that the password was changed last Wednesday.

I've tried a different browser and clearing all history, no effect. I have also noticed that the code sent to me when I have asked to change my asword has been the same each of the 3 times I have tried, which seems unusual.

Sounds to me like a classic phishing scam.
    1. Hijack your browser so it re-routed FB to a copy site where you enter your password and get told it is incorrect.
    2. Delay you getting into FB by telling you "try later".

All the time you are still able to get in using the phone - so clearly the password isn't incorrect.

I would suggest using the phone to access FB and change your password.
