Employers blunder with wages!!!!!!!how do i stand???plzz

Last month i decided to open a new bank account in order to be able to sort and manage my finances, after trying in vain to resolve 'The bank charges monthly dance' with my previous bank.
I informed my employers and gave them my new bank details, which last month they managed to pay my wages into, all be it minus a hefty amount due to them calculating my tax wrong!! however this month when i went to check my balance, imagine my horror when i found out they had paid my monthly wage into my old account, which immediatly swollowed 2/3 of my wages in charges and overdraft ( but that is another question for later). resulting in me now having to not only live on but meet all my direct debits, due to be taken from my new account, from the remaining third of my wages. AS that remaining money will not even meet my Diret Debits this will result in me facing charges with my new bank account, which obviously i did not want to occur or escalate. As this was a major error on my employers part, and I now face the real prospect of not being able to afford to get to work, fed my self, let alone meet my Direct Debits. Can I take any action or recourse against my employers or be able to reclaim any of my wage that has basicly been given away without my consent? Please help as I am absolutly destraught and worried about knock on effects this will have not only with my financial affairs but my health and security. Hope someone can shed some light and tell me how i stand and which would be the best action next to take. Thank you.

Did you complete a change of details form that is provided by the company?
Have you spoken to the original bank regarding the charges?
Have you spoken to your line manager regarding this?

I doubt you would be able to reclaim any of the wages from them but I am sure as it was their error, they could advance you on your next payment.

Lets imagine the old account was a joint one, that a former partner has access to and you don't any longer.

In this circumstance at least, the company made a mistake, and haven't paid your wages to the place they did. The company getting the wages back from the old bank is not your problem. They need to pay you, to your correct account. My website http://www.reportabademployer.co.uk may assist.

your financial issues are not your employers problems. they paid you the money.

They paid you the money..............into the WRONG account!!

That IS the empoyers fault (they had previousley paid it into the correct account so therefore they had the correct details) . This is an admin error.

It is a bit like saying to a supplier "Oh, I transferred the money as per your invoice....." and then finding out it was sent to the wrong account/supplier.

Any decent employer would make amends ASAP.

The fact is that your employer did pay you, and they paid it into one of your bank accounts - albeit not your preferred bank account!

Simply because you left a large overdraft & charges outstanding on that account, I can't see why you would have any real claim against your employer. Their obligation is to pay you with your wages, not to ensure these are available to use for your preferred purposes, rather than covering outstanding debts.

I don't see that you would have any case against your employer for this. It would appear to an admin error on the employer's side, but if you complain about this, you will probably get nowhere. If you simply discuss your difficulties with your employer (accepting some responsibility for the difficulties you are now in) you may perhaps get a more positive response from them.

sounds like you opened a new bank account to get out of paying what you owed the old bank. cant you get an overdraft with the new bank to cover yourself? tell them there has been a cockup with the pay, ask for a month month only overdraft til next pay day. make it small as you can as you will have to pay it back, you can t keep moving banks to avoid paying them back.
