Hi all,

We're after some input regarding what you would suggest should be included in the email signatures - this is for the automated email replies as well as personal handwritten replies.

We're looking to include the obvious such as as contact details (website, email address) as well as other links such as social network links etc.. maybe even address - although we don't want the email to be marked as spam because of this.

We've also noticed some companies use images but is this likely to affect the email being marked as spam?

All input including your own personal signature examples being copied across would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks,

Just to add - this signature will need to be able to be integrated into automated emails, emails sent via email clients (desktop) and emails sent via mobile phone. Will this have any affect on this how the signature would be made/coded etc?

Why put the email address in your signature? It's pretty pointless considering you have sent them an email.

Website isn't much use either, if you need a link to the website put it in the body of the message.

Don't use images it just adds clutter.

The coding is very important. Many email clients will is more your styling so the more simple your signature the more likely it is people will see it. If you are using an email service you will be limited to their formatting anyway.

I dont have a screenshot of my signature but if you pm me your email address i will forward one on to you.

I agree having email address in an email is pointless but if it gets forwarded on to someone and they have saved my email address as a name it doesnt always display the email address in the "from" section. That could potentially be a referral...

What if your email gets forwarded on around a business? I've had my emails passed around departments because the project I was working affected several departments. As a result of doing work for one department in a large organisation I often get work from other departments as my details get passed around. I couldn't say how many of those extra bits of work were initiated by email because I haven't looked in to it, but I would guess 90+% of them got in contact with me via details in my signature.

When dealing with larger corporations I find that a LinkedIn link is vital in a signature. A large percentage will click on it and connect there.

I stand corrected. Email in sigantures can be useful. But a lot depends on who you are cdontacting and for what.

My investigations on the subject becan years ago when I got an email from someone whote wrote to me like a real person. They added relevant links to their website in the message and signed off with:

"Graham, if you have any questions reply to this email, call me on 0123456789 or send a message to [email protected] "

All they had underneath this was their name.

The whole effect was to personalise the email. The signature wasn't necessary as the info I needed was in the body of the text. I done loads of tesating since and this is by fare the most effective way of adding yur details

I had another email the other day from someone and because of the auto-generation the mailto link was broken so clicking on the link acheived zero.

Any why would you want to do this?

None of those are going to generate leads so there is no point in sending people off to facebook or whatever.

I think that would depend on your type of business and how often you naturally have contact with them.

Using my business as an example. I develop spreadsheet tools for medium to large companies. About 80% of my clients turn in to repeat clients, however they only need my services once a year or so. In between talking to them, they could easily forget about me or find someone else.

Sending them a monthly newsletter about Excel is just not going to get read. If I can get them to connect via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc they will be in almost daily contact with me.

That of course is just my scenario.

That's a great point, thanks for that.
