I've set my eyes on a good domain that's coming up for expiry, and have backordered it. The WHOIS says it expired in July, but it's still in the Redemption period. Can anyone please clarify?

Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 30-aug-2012
Expiration Date: 19-jul-2012

It's a .com domain, when will it likely be available for backordering? I would have assumed, before now if the redemption period is 30 days... :|

Who have you back ordered with? Sometimes they aren't 100% guaranteed as the Drop Catchers can get in there first.

It might be worth asking on Acorn Domains about it, they are pro domainers over there.

The redemption period can be as long as 90 days, depending on the provider and domain type, so you will need to be patient grasshopper :)

OK, thanks... The domain was on Sedo but never sold. I didn't enquire about the price, however I suspect others might be interested. Will wait and see :)

.com domain names have a renewal grace-period of 40 days, and a redemption period of 30 days.

The domain is then dropped, made available for registration, anytime between day 70 to day 75.

There are some caveats to look out for. For example some registrars like Tucows, may register the domain name for resale during the redemption period.

Hope this helps.

There is a 90 day drop period for most .com domains. Unless someone else back ordered the domain as well, you might catch it after 90 days.

Quite a few companies now offer back-ordering.. and you dont even have to pay a penny unless you get the domain yourself...

Usually 90 days as everyone says however.
