Domain email

My daughter's recently bought a domain from 123reg. She wants email but their cost is pretty excessive at £60pa (they do cheaper but without mobile access o_O).

I've taken a quick look and come across namecheap.com. At £18pa, for up to 10 addresses, seems ok value.

Anyone got any feedback on them or have an alternative suggestion?

    Thanks

My hosting package through Hihosting (Dan from them is on here) costs me £30 for the year and includes the domain, hosting and a set of one click install scripts...

The reason I mention this is that without any effort I've found that there are scripts to run your own email with a spam filter and everything... which is pretty neat! So you could try them. In terms of 123reg and Namecheap I've only heard bad things which is why I've relied on recommendations via this and another competing forum in the past.

Sorry if that doesn't help and glad to help if it does :D

Mobile access? 123reg are taking the mick. Mobile access is simply a matter of setting up the account in the same way you would set it up on outlook or thunderbird.

Why not just do as suggested and redirect the domain somewhere else and you don't need to pay 123reg a penny.

Is she only using it for email or is she having a website too? If she's having a website, just make sure the hosting offers some kind of webmail, most do, cPanel usually has Roundcube set up as a fairly decent webmail. And for mobile, just use the built in web client on the mobile device, using IMAP or POP3.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

It's only email she's after for now. She'll sort a website later - not critical for what she's doing right now.

I'd rather leave the hosting (if I can) until she's ready for a site ...and I'd rather leave most, if not all of the stuff, in her control, hence something like namecheap would probably be preferable.

Can you not point the domain at your hosting account and set up an email account for her?

Pretty sure the hosting I have is quite specific to my 2ndimpression domain. If I were to point it, not sure I could create a [email protected] address.

    Hi Mike,

That does sound a bit strange, the 123 charge of £60 for mobile e-mail. Most hosts include e-mail (regardless of how you access it) as standard - no extra costs. We certainly do and I think most people would assume that e-mail is included in any hosting package.

Going back to your last question, no she would not be able to host her e-mail on your hosting. You would need to add another hosting package on your account, set up with her domain name.

What I would suggest is getting hosting somewhere else and point your domain name (currently with 123) at the new hosting provider.

PM me tomorrow if you like and I'll talk you or her through it.

He could add it as a domain alias and create a mailbox for her, just for emails.
