Does poor broadband reduce your house price?

Hi Everyone,

I'd be really interested to find out if a poor broadband service has an impact on the value of your home. Would you ask this question prior to buying? Would you decision be compromised?

I wouldn't make a lower offer because of poor broadband - I would simply look elsewhere.

It would put some people off buying if the area offered poor broadband and that could affect your ability to sell and hence you drop your price.

It depends on what your definition of poor is. You can get satellite internet anywhere in Europe (pretty much) and while it is not great, it works and I can run my business from it.

Some areas do not have access to fiber broadband & as such would have a minimal but slight affect on the holistic price, approximately £5-10k.

I would agree with this comment. I could not live in a house with poor broadband, so I would not buy one. With my recent ish house move, it was the first question I asked and did impact our end decision.

But that said, I couldn't imagine anyone complaining about the price just because the broadband is poor.

Yes is has affected our house price we live in a 4 bed house that, is on the large side of the scale as its an old style built house. It also rural but due to our poor services around the area is valued under 360k but the house further up the road are 2 bed house and are 300k because they have local amenities and also a lot better broadband, and when i spoke to our estate agents that valued it, they said broadband is now a factor of cost, due to many people rely on the internet and take it in now as a factor of choosing a house.

Yes regardless of running a business I had to upgrade to fibre as we have about 5-6 devices connecting to the web at any one time and growing. I had the wife and kids moaning at me every time the internet went.

It is VERY low on the list of priorities for me in buying a house. In fairness, however, in rural County Durham the broad band is normally fairly good - better than in some cities.

However, if it is important to someone, then it is going to be more about going elsewhere than chipping the price, as suggested above.

Providing it had some sort of connection it wouldn't be an issue, I guess depends how important a fast connection is to you or your business.

Yeah it would put me off buying the property, I just wouldn't put a bid in. However, BB companies are improving coverage constantly, so it won't be long until this is no longer an issue
