Do you use a Laptop?

I use a Samsung R700! great laptop with a very large 17" wide screen, 300 GB HDD, 3 GB RAM. Its my work laptop aswell as my personal laptop and will do almost everything. I had a dell d630 before this 1 and can honestly say that that was a great laptop for its age. It seems alot of business's still like to buy the d630's as they have something built into the software that they need.

I know it might be an unpopular option on here, but what about a 2nd hand macbook air 11"?
It pushes many of the right buttons for you, it's light, small and plenty powerful. You can even install windows on it if you fancied.
I've had mac laptops for a good few years now, not that they are perfect, I'm under no delusions, but I've personally never had anything go wrong with them. Most of my old ones were passed down to family members and they are still going strong, my mum still uses the powerbook g4 i gave her!

I picked up a dell xps, with an i5 cpu, 4gb memory and 1tb drive. Got it for £470 on the dell outlet store (which are returns). There isn't a mark on it, and had I bought it from the main dell site it would have cost around £650.

Well worth checking out the dell outlet site.... they seem to update stock at 3:15pm every day.

A small samsung, very light to carry around. To me this is the main thing since I go around quite a lot.
This is the only reason I am not using a Mac, that is by far my favourie ever. Hope it helps!

Yeah i have using Dell Core i5 from last 6 months with these specifications..

WIndows 7
RAM:4GB
Graphics Card 1Gb
360GB Harddrive

& much more..

all that will comes under £400-500.

Normally the is a sign of higher heat when a CPU slows. Could just be you have too many programmes starting at startup, look in the program tab STARTUP and remove anything you don't need.

I made mistake by buying laptop. It acts more like a desktop computer. I mean, it is too heavy and fragile to always carry it, you cannot move while working, battery life is not long enough to be reliable for business needs, and for the reasons 99% of the time it is on my desk. Most people have the same problems. A better choice for me is bigger smartphone + powerful desktop.
But everyone has specific needs of course.

These days between a combination of desktop and Ipad I dont use my laptop a great deal

I am using a Dell Inspiron from last 4 years and it's giving me a very good performance. So I think you also should prefer a Dell laptop. these are quite well in performance.

I have been dragging my feet on this one due to other priorities but today I finally got around to placing an order for a Medion laptop. It has a decent spec and a good price. Let's hope it does the trick. Thanks to all for your inputs.

Aldi sell Medion, they are supposed to be a decent make and due to the low prices at Aldi I've fallen for them many times but I suggest you keep your receipt handy as everything I bought packed up within a month or so.

Not against cheap stuff though, this Advent laptop I'm using now has lasted 2 years and even now you would get a laptop with i7 processor for the £399 I paid back then.

Why on earth would you would keep going back to them if they are that bad? :|

I did not go into this with my eyes closed. I bought a desktop PC from Aldi/Medion in the past. It was great value for money. The vast majority of reviews for their IT stuff are positive. Your experience seems to be different from the norm. ;)

If you are using Windows you should try re installing it! It could be just like new after you've done that. Although if you bought it back in 2007 it could be nice to get a new laptop anyway... :)

Actually my son bought a Medion laptop a couple of years ago. He has three boys ages 6, 7 and ten who drag it around the house like a toy, drop it, fight over it and generally abuse it. :)

It took all that they could throw at it until his wife spilled a mug of coffee over the keyboard. :eek:
