Millions of blogs are started every day - most die out within a few posts. It's a sad state of affairs that's probably worthy of a charity single.

If you haven't posted to your blog in say, a month or more, why not?

Poll votes are good, replies below are even better.

Thanks

I think the answer is in the reason the blog was started in the first place.

A lot of blogs are started as a link building thing or to drive traffic. There is no clear purpose to the blog and no real desire to write. THese blog just die a death because the owner simply runs out of steam or has so little to say.

The best bloggers are those who enjoy writing, who dig out the interesting articles and add their own take on the subject. It's not a skill everybody has and is why most blogs just fade away...

So what should people do with dead or comatose blogs?

Sell them to me...depending on the subject matter and other factors...but nothing that hosted on the Blogger or Wordpress subdomains.

Alternatively

Do some homework on how you can integrate you blog into the social media space. I posted about a few days ago.

Cheers folks.

So how often works for you?

I post daily, Technorati points out that some of the top bloggers manage around 300 posts a month (clearly full time with some help).

I often unsubscribe from blogs that I've previously subscribed to if there isn't at least a post every week or so.

And on the deleting your own 'dead blogs' point - provided that there's useful, keyword-rich content in them - should the content not be repurposed in some way?

I use our blog as a marketing tool I'm not interested in using it as a blog the lines are so blurred it is just a bit of technology to get you from A-B.

"And on the deleting your own 'dead blogs' point - provided that there's useful, keyword-rich content in them - should the content not be repurposed in some way?"

If a post is good in term of keyword rich content why the hell would you nuke it?

I have numerous blogs and just post waffle on them.
basicaly, all I do is take a break from whatever I am doing, switch the
radio on (or browse through the days most popular items at BBC) and
write about whatever the topic is.

Amazingly some of the posts get quite a few visitors.

I don't see it as work, don't see it as a chore, and don't particulary care
    what I write.

A good blog is similar to a good website; it should have a purpose with relevant messages for relevant audiences.

These things balanced with their relative importance (with the rest of the things the authors have to do) determine the frequency of posts.

It follows that Blogs with few posts are given little importance by their authors; little wonder why they're not read by others.
