Perfect! But why wait for a drought? We're all so reactionary aren't we? Only changing the way we do things when we're told it's necessary for some reason or other. Why don't we all try and change the way we do things now?

Absolutely. Very well said. I have half flush toilets in my house and do adhere to the if it's yellow, let it mellow, plan and flush it at the end of the day.

Turning all electrical equipment off, at the mains, when not using them, especially over night.

Had my house fully insulated so that i don't need to use the heating much - which has worked so well.

Obviously i'm fully LED in my house, which saves me 90% on my yearly energy bills.

I use public transport as much as i can or my bike.

Don't print things out if i can really help it

There really are 'some' absolute nobody's who think they are business guru's on this site.

A guy who operates in a very specialist industry for over ten years being told about his own market and how to sell his products and run his business by someone who has absolutely nothing to do with the industry in any form. Can't make this stuff up, you really can't.

It doesn't matter how long you've been doing something. You can easily be blinded by passion and get overly defensive about certain things. Humans are humans.

If the guy thinks these bulbs will be an easy sell to the majority of the general public then he's living in nutter land. I really don't care how many years he has apparently been in the industry.

I'd be looking at the post counts and the time spent on this site by those who are aparrent business 'gods'. If your have a high post count and spend a lot of time on this site, then to me, that suggests how well your actual business is going and how much time you spend on it. Be wary.

That's a way of offending an awful lot of people on this site with high post counts and very successful businesses.

I have sold all manner of products to nearly every country in the world and founded one of the biggest retail websites in the world (although no longer part of it), yet i wouldn't dream i know anything about this type of market or the eco market in general. I know nothing about it and would rely on guys like this to educate me.

I think some on here need their online ego's checked and burst. Wake up and realise you are not who you think you are and how damaging it could be if someone followed your 'advice'.

Damaging advice? I'm saying that going entirely with the eco-friendly angle and going with the rather poor cost saving angle when such cheap bulbs already exist may not fair well as well as expected in the market of the general public. It's bloody common sense for anyone who has an ounce of business knowledge.

This is a big country, so sure you might even get thousands of people and families converting to LED bulbs over time. However, I don't think it's the next big thing and I don't think it will be for a long while yet.

I've worked on client projects in this field, I've done plenty of research in this field and the poll in this thread also makes a point. As I said though, I can see how there could be a big market when it comes to businesses and companies, so that could work brilliantly.

I guess I'm really on the opposite end of the spectrum to you as I wouldn't dream of letting litres of urine fester in my toilet for an entire day . I bet your bathroom smells wonderful.

I've asked this before but could you please explain how this works? Lighting doesn't use up anywhere near 90% of energy bills, so how can replacing energy-saving bulbs with LED bulbs save 90% of your yearly energy bills?

It makes zero sense, unless you almost never use computers, televisions, DVD players, electric cookers, toasters, kettles, fridges, washing machines and microwave ovens, so lighting is literally one of the few things which uses electricity in your home.

Well, as I work with Tork UK, who are all about sustainable and eco-friendly hygiene products, I am a little biased, but yes - the eco friendliness of a product plays a large part in the buying process for me be it at home or at work. I definitely think that if there is an eco-friendly alternative to a product you are using it is important to at least try out the alternative and see what you think. Obviously the cost of a product plays an important role, especially in business, but that should definitely be tempered with some social and environmental responsibility…

The guy sells lighting. He says his lighting can save 'up to 90%' on your energy bills. It might not be worded perfectly, but seriously, an ounce of intelligence can work out exactly what he means. It's not hard. :|

I think experience and how long you have been in an industry counts for a hell of a lot. Especially if you have a track record to back it up.

There's no track record I've seen here. There isn't even an established site. There's no track record of anything you've stated either, and by your own attitude, I pretty much just don't believe you full stop.

There is no way I'm going to sit here and say 'well I have my opinions, but this guy apparently has 10 years more experience than me, so I MUST be wrong'. Never heard anything so daft in my life.

What rather poor cost saving? If the products stand up to the figures i have seen in the 'introductions thread' then its basic maths that over the medium to long term you will save a good amount of money.

A cost saving is a cost saving. However, when it comes to convincing an average family to spend £100+ replacing every bulb in their home, I think it's too poor of a cost saving to do the job alone.

You're right, I don't know much about them. I'm basically a potential customer with little knowledge of these LED lights.

I'll avoid all of that and answer your basic point about the energy bills. I originally thought it might have been poor wording, but this person has said 'save 90% on energy bills' on multiple occasions now, so I'm starting to think that it might not just be poor wording.

I suspect he means "save 90% on energy bills associated with your lighting". Possibly he means "90% of lighting bills", but this would need to take account of the high cost of the bulbs.

Rather than speculate, let's just ask what is meant.
