The CWU members at Coventry and two other mail centres have voted for Strike action to try to prevent Royal Mail closing the local centres and moving the mail out to a new superhub at Northampton.

For more information see here.

The Coventry area is the first where this is coming to ahead, however the North East and North West are also considering strike action at present, and this underlying strategy is one that will affect eventually pretty much every mail centre in the UK as the Royal Mail move over to a planned 40 super-hubs accross the UK.

This isn't one that's going to go away quickly, and is likely to a recurring situation through next year unless Royal Mail bosses get it sorted properly.

Let's face it, unions have no plce in a modern economy, they are just an excuse for the lazy and workshy.

Royal Mail should have forced such changes through twenty years ago, it suffered from weak inept management with a powerful Union, recently the management is being forced into tough decisions, and the Union is getting weaker.

Perfect time to force through unpopular changes in a recession year, their workers will not be so keen to risk their long term prospects with several thousand people a day losing their jobs.
