Corporation tax demand

Hi

My company was wound down as it was not making any money but today I've received a demand for £724 corporation tax. I don't see how I owe this as the company did not make a profit in its last year and I have no means of paying this. The company was a Limited company.

What should I do?

Is the company dissolved?

If not then it may well owe this debt - has it had any profits in recent times?
You not being able to pay it will be irrelevant, its not your debt.
It belongs to the company.

Thanks for the reply

The company is in the final stages of being dissolved and the Bank accounts closed a few months ago, but is still active on companies house! Even though we started the procedure of winding down in March

Expect HMRC to keep chasing the debt until company dissolves.
Taking a while - perhaps HMRC objected?

Maybe, but I think it's my accountant that is dragging his feet. So I've nothing to worry about?
What is your accountant doing? How are you paying them for whatever they are doing? Have you started the dissolution process yourself?

Send me a PM with the Company name and I'll check on Companies House to see if the strike off has been initiated. Just to let you know that you can't begin strike off until you have stopped trading for 3 months, and then it takes approx 2 months for strike off to happen. However, if a creditor objects, and HMRC are most likely to have done so, it can take much longer.
