Contract Phone

I would just like to know were I stand with this one, here is the story:

I was in Kavos, Corfu between 6th June and 20th.
Rang Orange from my friends phone on the 15th to get my roaming activated but lost my phone out the same night.
I couldn't get hold of anyone to cancel it until the 18th when I told my mother via msn to cancel my contract for me.
When I got home on the 20th I rang Orange straight up, got a replacement sim sent to me, new phone, same number etc.. and all is fine.

Got my bill yesterday and £90 of calls were made between losing my phone and cancelling it to a local Greek number (3069...... numbers) so it must have been found and used by a local.

I rang Orange last night and they told me to phone back monday morning and speak to the lost/stolen dept. about this.

Orange do have a record of me getting the roaming activated, but also have a record of my mother cancelling and myself requesting the new sim.

Am I going to have to pay for these calls or is there anything I can argue to try and get these cancelled off my bill?

The usual contract stipulation is that you are responsible for calls until the Company is notified.
If you have phone insurance, you may be covered, or you might be covered on your home insurance.
It also might depend on what 'couldnt contact anyone' means exactly.

I see

What I meant by couldn't contact anybody was that my friend who I was away with had run out of credit by then, and I couldn't get internet access until that few days later.

Afraid that sounds more like "didn't" than "couldn't". There are lots of telephones in Corfu so you could have called Orange or your mother. Even a reverse charge call would likely have been less than the extortionate roaming charges you would have paid if you could have used your friends mobile and certainly less than the bill you face now.
