Community Introductions & Networkling [no links please]

H

Henry Osadzinski

Welcome to the London & South East community introductions thread. This is a new space for people in the local area to come in, say hello and let everyone know what their hopes and goals are from their time on UK Business Forums.

Feel free to introduce yourself here and make others feel welcome :) If you know someone in your area who may benefit from joining in, be sure to let them know about us as well.

While you're welcome to let people know what you're working on and a bit of background, please avoid anything that could come across as a sales pitch and, even if you're an established member, please don't link to your business here. The idea is to give people a chance to get to know each other and what's going on in their region.

Thanks!

Never really sure whether we are classed as South East, being in Southampton? But thought I'd post here anyway.

Have recently set up a business offering freelance credit control services, for those of you who are too busy trying to get the sales and build your business to spend time chasing for payment of those sales, I have found the forum really useful, sometimes just lurking, sometimes posting.

Always happy to receive PM's and help others wherever possible if I can.

Hiya,

I've worked in the IT industry for over 20 years and have recently started a firm based in London which offers advice on R&D tax relief to firms mostly performing software development and manufacturing products.

It's quite exciting as I get to see lots of cutting edge technology and also help firms who are performing R&D to claim cash back from the HMRC, this can mean the difference between a firm going down before getting their product to market or a successful launch, which is what R&D tax relief was designed for in the first place.

I joined UK Business Forums quite recently and am enjoying helping others out with their questions/issues, so if anyone has any questions regarding R&D tax relief, I'm happy to answer them, either PM or post somewhere so everyone else can see the answers.

Thanks

Paul

We're also Kent based having moved here from St Albans around 6 years ago - it's a beautiful part of Britain!

We’ve been providing businesses with project management and consultancy services since 2005. Running a small business ourselves means that, at one time or another, we’ve experienced most of the problems that business owners face, like not having enough work or having too much work and feeling isolated. We believe that small business growth is key to global economic recovery, so we've started a new online venture which we hope will do our bit to help.

We have added a few posts on UK Business Forums so far but look forward to being more active in providing some answers.

Hi, I'm a newbie on this site so I just wanted to quickly introduce myself. I am developing a virtual assistance business, with the 'white van' person being my primary client. I have a passion for helping people and have found, recently, that this is really appreciated. So, hello for now, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone :)

Hello all,

I'm a sales and account manager almost 2 years into my first commercial position.

My company imports and distributes specialist oriental food and drink throughout the UK and Europe and am branching ever further into the continent!

Give me a shout if you have any Oriental food queries and I'll be happy to help out.

As I am still "relatively" new in the industry I am keen on networking and trying to find out the best/most efficient way of doing things.
I am looking forward to participating!

Hi,

My name is Chris and I am based in Gosport, near Portsmouth.
I am a freelance front-end developer and web designer.

My initial plan is to work with local small and medium sized businesses to help get them a quality, affordable online presence.

I realise this forum seems saturated with "web designers", you can consider me another one of those if you want - just better. ;)

I am looking to learn plenty from the forum archives, but also hope I can add to the community and provide any help or advice where I can.

I am doing some work on local business support provided by London councils and have prepared a small, 10 question survey, which I would appreciate London business owners completing.

It is anonymous, however, as a member of the FSB, I have put an optional data collection question in, should you require more information about it

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DQ8MZ3C

Thanks, in advance, for you support.

Hello! I hope Oxford comes within the remit of London and the South East. I don't think it fits in the Midlands. I am a communications and PR specialist, so I hope that I will be able to help people here with ideas, as well as get some help for myself!

Hello all,

Some of you may already have received posts from me. Have been on here almost 6 months now and thoroughly enjoying giving advice and opinions.

I run a business consultancy for small businesses and sometimes invest if I feel its a good company and my experience and contacts can help the company grow. Have been in business over 30 years now and seen the good, the bad and the ugly.

Based near St Albans and travel quite a lot and always interested in innovative ideas. You get my opinion in a frank and direct way but behind it all, I am a nice guy :)

Happy Forum'ing !!

Me and my partner have set up a virtual hire site that people from all over the UK can have access to.
We have the standard website in which people can view. But the important step is Introducing the company and it becoming known.
Our company, Lobster Plant and Tool Hire, is in partnership with Hire Station. And have 80+ warehouses all around the UK.

Any questions ill be happy to answer and also follow you on twitter.

Kind regards and best wishes.

What does your construction company specialise with?
Do you have a website? I know i cant posts links up on here but if you have twitter and add me (at)lobstertoolhire i'd love to know a bit more about your company.

I suppose we're on the same level as each other with trying to grow our businesses, so i can give you "lessons learned" info etc.

Its been a struggle to say the least. But optimism seems to be they key at the moment!

At the moment I'm trying the "know your customer" route. Its only just started so cant really say its working as of yet. Just tweet after tweet and joining loads of these forums. Might not be on the first list on google but slowly getting recognised. (Slowly would be an understatement).
Patience isn't my strongest point.

Hi Everyone,

Just joined after searching online for a London-centered online business forum.

I'm totally new to business and entrepreneurship - as a young student who has recently graduated I've decided to start-up a small online business to keep me occupied whilst I job hunt.

The business specialises in providing practice aptitude tests via web applications on a subscription term basis (i.e. 30 or 60 days) and charges for the appropriate amount of time. Specifically these practice aptitude tests are for those cadets who wish to join a selective/private flying school before progressing onto a large UK or European-based airline.

In the future I'd like to expand this business into consulting for the development of specific professional-grade aptitude tests for various flight training organisations.

My area of 'expertise' is actually as a commercial pilot, and although the industry is slightly stagnant - I do believe there are heaps of opportunity for many niche businesses within it still.

To round off, I'm 21, currently studying for a BA (to Masters eventually!) in an aviation related degree and am looking to network, learn, listen from all of you wise chaps in here.

Apologies for the longest forum introduction post in the history of the internet. :)

Thanks,

Tom
