Cold Calling is Costly!

The number of cold calls we are receiving per day is now getting out of hand. On an average day we get around 20 calls from people trying to sell us services.

This is obviously now costing staff wages and also blocking phone lines. Is there any way at all that this can be stopped?

In many cases they have managed to get hold of the name of a manager and filtering these calls is getting problematic. They also often lie and say that they have already spoken to the person that they are trying to get hold of and they use all sorts of tactics to get through. It actually means that some valid callers don't get through sometimes as we block them thinking they are cold callers.

It is sad that people use these methods, we need to find an answer.

I got sick of one number that kept calling and hanging up. I googled it and found out who it wad.

I then went onto levelbusiness.com and found the directors name. I then googled him and found out his personal webpage, his personal mobile number and email address.

I then called him on his private number and he was shocked I obtained this and I didn't tell him how I obtained it.

I told him that if his company and staff didn't stop harasssing me I would keep calling him each time on his own mobile.

The calls soon stopped.

Google, internet and level business are all excellent tools for such action.

Unfortunately what can happen is that once you get on a telemarketing list your data gets shared and sold on.

Sometimes people put their telephone number on the TPS (for residential numbers) and forget about CTPS for businesses.

Unfortunately some businesses don't check against TPS or CTPS or they only check against CTPS (as they are only required to do that for b2b calling) and ignore TPS.

Sometimes they can get round this by making "market research" calls instead of unsolicited sales calls.

It will take around 28 days for CTPS registration to kick in but cold callers (from businesses and from telemarketing agencies) can be a bit slack with re-checking against CTPS

Apart from CTPS you still have the right to ask not to be called again (privacy of electronic communications act) and if you are called again then you can report the callers but you will need to have their company name, telephone number so it doesn't help if someone calls with holding their phone number.

Hope that helps

That is utterly brilliant!

I'm getting especially fed up with the automated PPI claim calls, usually get them daily, if not twice daily.

Don't know whether this will interest anyone but Homeserve have just been fined £750k for making silent calls. Will this stop them? Probably not.
