Clearbooks versus Xero

My experience with accounting software as a construction business is as follows:

Used Freeagent initially - which was great, cheap and cheerful but quickly outgrew the fact it didn't offer full CIS support only workarounds.

Currently using Clearbooks which is great and helpful staff but 2 major issues for myself:
  • It doesn't integrate with Capitalontap (my credit card provider) where 70% of our spend goes, we have to manually download and export csv files weekly
  • The Purchase order system doesn't seem the best and from Xero's free trial this looks great
Then the price for Clearbooks compared to Xero for 15 employees is significantly more

Does anyone have experience with either? As I can imagine switching from Clearbooks to Xero will be frustrating in itself?

I am not familiar with Clearbooks but I do use Xero for my bookkeeping practice.
Xero does integrate well with Capital On Tap because one of my Clients has a Capital On Tap Card that appears as a 'Bank Account' on the Dashboard alongside the main current account. All the Capital On Tap transactions flow in seamlessly and any payments from current business account to Capital On Tap go through as a 'Transfer between accounts during reconciliation.
As with all things in life there will be plusses and minuses with any changeover.
What do your acoountants say about it?
A good bookkeeper may be able to help you with a cost effective transition.
But how do you do Payroll? Our accountants recommended Xero to us but they tend not to run Payroll through Xero Payroll because they favour Bright Pay. For example they say they have 200 Clients on Bright Pay and 1 on Xero Payroll even though they recommend Xero Accounting Software.
