change ltd company name

I am considering changing my ltd company name. Do banks let you keep the same bank account/terms etc and change the name on the account or do they make you close the bank account and apply for a new account under the new name. I am with Lloyds Tsb.

There's the obvious comment that you should be asking the bank, not on the forum!

I think that it will be the same account, same account number, different name. But I'm not the person who counts.

I changed my company name and have retained the same bank account and did not need to open a new account. This was with the Abbey, but may not apply to all banks.

The answer is that the bank should allow you to keep the same bank account. Nothing has in fact changed. Your company was set up with one name and given a registered number. All you have changed is the name not the number. It is the same customer and legally all that the bank should do is change it records and issue new cheque books and paying in books in the new company name.

A word of warning however. I did this with one of my companies a few years ago and the nitwits at the local HSBC bank tried to close the account down and open another one. I had to get very stroppy with them and insist that they contact a "real bank manager" (my words) to confirm the position. Will ill grace they did. The account name was changed.

This is the problem nowadays where the "managers" you come across in most branches are not bank managers but "customer service managers" (HAH) or "branch managers" - whic means they make sure the bank is clean and that the staff turn up on time. They are not bankers - though many could be described as being bankers with the wrong first letter

I had a client once who had 2 companies, they made the trading one dormant and began trading with the other one.
The bank simply changed the account name over, despite them being 2 different legal entities....

So I wouldn't have thought changing the name for the same company a problem!
