Well, it was news to me. I thought if I just ignored the whole pesky cash thing it might surprise me with some unexpected growth. But now I've been educated on the matter, I will change my ways. This forum goes a long way to help a girl out.

Love the cynicism and if you have your head screwed on, brilliant. Having spent time in business turnaround I find it staggering how many businesses just get cash management wrong. Often it is because decisions are made in other areas of the business that appear to make sense but the cash flow implications aren't looked at until it's too late.

The premise of the blog is keeping it simple. The message in this one is to look forward and anticipate in plenty of time when it is going to get tough. Common sense? Maybe. The global crunch can be traced back to doing business with people that couldn't pay. Business isn't rocket science, you just have to get the basics right.

And, in the current climate, where lots of clients are dragging their heels when it comes to paying invoices, it's important to keep and eye on it.

That is so true. In a time where eberyone is trying to get more business sometimes you simply can not afford to have that business due to cash flow.

Not being a cynic though I did have a look at your blog and found it very useful as I've been trying loads of different blog themes without success for a project of mine but I think that I've now hit on the right one.

One thing in your blog. I think you will find FTSE 100 comapnies are way beyond using Excel for cash flow forecasting.

Although it's true enough that cash flow is probably the single biggest cause of business failures in their first year. It's also amazing how many long time business owners ignore the basics only for it to suddenly bite them in the rear.

Absolutely but having said that the idea of the blog is to generate discussion and ideas in search of a few central and simple business rules. I think that could work pretty well with UKBF which is essentially an entreprenurial community where their is plenty of experience and there are plenty of people with strong points of view. But I'm a total newbie - two posts into the blog, it's early days.

I agree but I think the difference is the format. In the forum the discussion is high pace with quite a staccoto rhythm adn it can go anywhere. The blog gives a chance to explore more widely.

btw what's the blog idea - looking at your links cash flow is close to your heart?

I have quite a few websites plus three blogs all of which are concerned with factoring and invoice discounting in one way or another.

I have one particular website that I wanted to change format and was looking for a suitable Wordpress theme to replace the static website with. The problem is that most blog themes are geared to continuous posts down the page but I needed to have several pages with one of the secondary pages devoted to updates & news etc.

Most blog templates have the page index across the top which isn't suitable for me as I have long page titles so I've been trying out the few templates that I've come across where the page indexes are in a sidebar and the one that you are using seems eminently suitable - thanks
