Car valeting contract

Hello

My local garage that has several garage/showrooms in the north east, I have just found out has a contract company in to valet all the cars, new and used and the ones on display.
They have about 5 people working at abu one time in the garage.
I've heard rumblings that all is not well with the person in charge of the valet company and the dealer director.

I was thinking of starting up a valet company and offering my services.
I'm sure I could get a hand full of people who are willing to clean cars.

What's the best way to emoloy for this type of work, hire them as self employed or 0 hour contracts?

Is anyone in this type of business? I was curious to know the price per car ?
I'm sure the dealer director would tell me what the going rate is.

The big thing is if I can get into my local gsragg, make it work and then put forward to go into the other garages of the branch, albeit a bit if out of the area so will be harder to control, i.e workers etc.

A couple of quick thoughts

They will almost certainly pay on a 'per car' basis - the key is to getting cars through quickly but properly valeted.

You will get lots of stress from individual salesmen, servicers and deliverers, all of whom want to be top of the pile

On many sites space is very limited and dings will happen - you need to be clear what the policy is on this

It's unlikely your staff will qualify as self employed. You might be able to do zero hours contracts if you can find good people who are prepared to work on that basis

Overall, there is money to be made, but it isn't easy money

Might be a thought but get yourself into the SMART repair side as well, an ideal add to a valeting business operating in the motor trade. Back in the 80s I had 4 mobile valeting units and I did the minor paint repairs. life was good. However....the motor trade is viscious ( re, as above ) and they will try and cut your throat for pennies. That was in the 80's so lord only knows what it is like nowadays now that every man and his dog are doing it
