It's not all about specs when it comes to purchasing a server, there are a thousand other things to consider.

Take this for example - http://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/superplan_best_of.xml

Looks great, right? And it is, the server is absolutely amazing, the bandwidth provision (15TB @ 100mbit/s) is great and yes overall the server is great. The issue with OVH* is what happens when things go wrong... You'll be left in the dark for quite a while, there is no 24/7 technical support without calling France directly and dealing with a language barrier whilst you talk to a technician, and even then, you have to wait quite a while.

1&1 is virtually the same, perhaps not everyone's experience is identical, but when I had one of their dedicated servers you're left waiting in long queues on the phone, only to be told that they will create a ticket and look into it.

As the saying goes you get what you pay for, and whilst 1&1 may be cheap, their whole business is based on upsale/firesaling as far as I've worked out, and their service (not product) isn't great. This was a couple years ago, maybe they've changed, but I've never seen anything to support that :)

* OVH actually get a hell of a lot better when you go into their EG/MG range, 1&1's service has been the same at all times from what I read.

...their service (not product) isn't great.
That must be one of the greatest understatements that I have heard in years.

1&1's customer support is by a country mile, the worst I have experienced in any business situation in any walk of life. They are utterly hopeless at support but what makes it worse is that it has been this way since I first used them more than ten years ago. During that period their support has got progressively worse. I am afraid they just don't care and it appears to be their corporate policy to ignore support requests and to mess customers around.

I sent them my latest support request 11 days ago. I got no response. I sent them a reminder a week ago. I am still waiting on a reply and I won't get one. My advice to you would be to consider using them for as long as you would consider eating a dog poo sandwich.

I must admit, I don't like 1and1, but I find myself attracted to their amazing prices.

Can anyone beat this price on like-for-like specs?

One thing to bear in mind is they state the guaranteed ram, but not what share or # of threads of CPU you get. This is aside from everything everyone else has mentioned of course!

Try these boys http://www.freethought-internet.co.uk/servers/vps/ in your consideration. Top lads and top support IMO, and we have no affiliation to them at all.

Have you actually read the spec? For example:

    • You are responsible for managing the server. No admin support
    • '24/7 hotline calls cost 6p per minute plus network extras'
    • One domain only - all the others are options.
    • 100Mb bandwidth means nothing of you are 100 miles away at the end of an old bit of copper.
    • Backup is optional - ie: you have to pay for it

How was you established since 2001 (according to your website, although it also says 2000 on the About page, and 1991 on another website you advertised on since 6 days ago!), yet your domain was registered in 2011?

Why don't you have a physical address and telephone number on your website? Don't you know this is a legal requirement?
    Am I missing something?

Good, I was waiting for this. :)

    No show at all. ;)

Firstly my interpretation of this is that this is companies act legislation and I am not a company. Feel free to report me to whoever you like if you disagree. ;)
Secondly I tell people where I am located if not the actual address, which is my home address. If they contact me they get a reply with all my details.
Thirdly I have an actual email address on my website.
Fourthly (is that a word?) I have a land line telephone number on my website.
Finally I am not the one promoting my services with superlatives here. :p

Looking at http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?itemId=1073788946&type=RESOURCES it's for all types of business. In addition a sole trader should also show "fred bloggs t/a My Business"

And, no - i've no intention of reporting anyone - it doesn't concern me, but just thought it was mildly amusing that you were pulling up another website for similar ;)

I also meant to add that I think it would be foolhardy to rely on a hosting company that is not fully transparent about who they are.
Complete agree with you on this - and the other site you were criticising has a scary lack of contact information - no address, no phone number and not even an email address - just a web form. It could be literally anyone anywhere.

    This link does nothing?

This shows your website is not infected with a virus. Well done.

Rather than disclose plans for global domination, why not just add your current phone number and/or physical address to your website? That is unless you have something to hide?

    Steve
The above paypal is working and it show that we have verified our address/bankaccounts/contact no with paypal .
    Mnchost is PayPal Verified

PayPal's verification system allows you to learn more about users before you pay them through PayPal. Verify that the information below is consistent with the business, organization or person you wish to pay.

    Email: [email protected]
    Status: Verified
    Account Creation Date: 29-Sep-2011

To ensure that this is a legitimate PayPal Verified user, make sure that the URL of this page begins with https://www.paypal.com/.

What it means to be Verified

To become Verified, a PayPal member must enrol in our Expanded Use Programme. When a member completes Expanded Use enrolment, he undergoes additional checks that increase security for all PayPal users. Please note that PayPal's verification system does not constitute an endorsement of a member, nor a guarantee of a member's business practices. You should always consider other indicators when evaluating members, including length of PayPal membership and reputation scores (on eBay or other auction sites, if applicable).
about phone number:please wait we are in process of getting toll-free number for US/UK countries .
We have no intention to hide anything ,why should we hide anything,if our payment processor is paypal and 2checkout where we already submitted all legal documents for better business and trust ...

signin first and try this link plz..
I did - it does not work.

Anyway, I'm really not bothered if the link did work as again, it proves very little without physical details on your website to back it up. Also, why wait until getting an address in the US and UK when you could just publish your real address India as per the WHOIS info?

This is seriously off topic so will probably be my last reply, but: Those 2 links that you provided above do not prove anything. A "Verified" account means that they've sent you ~16p to your bank and you entered the number, oh and you have a valid telephone number (which can be mobile). This means nothing.

The Norton link simply says that you've registered on their website and they "scanned" your site.

The main thing that concerns me is what follows:
    1. On web host review sites, YOU are the only one has written a review.
    2. In Norton's "User Reviews", YOU are the only one who has written a review.
    3. All of your advertising posts on other websites saying about your hosting packages were posted a few months ago
    4. On one website, you claim you was running since 2000, another 2001 and another 1991.
    5. You have no list of these so-called multinational clients who you've hosted for 11 years now (or is it 12/21?)

I'm sorry, but it definitely seems like 1 guy running all of this, you may give good service and a good product, but unless you say "MNCHost was registered in late 2011 and aims to give customers the best possible service at the best price. I am based in India and manage all of my servers privately to ensure they are not oversold etc" - You will not go very far.

Yes, it is. At least we have some form of verification that you are a real person to trust.
