Just got a call from a very friendly woman who was thanking us for our support with the drug awarness project we supported.

I had no idea what she was talking about but she said it was making a big difference, kept using our staff names and asking me to pass on the thanks.

Then they asked which school they would like more books to be sent to etc etc then she brough up the matter of the £189.99 payable.

I asked her to send a copy of the invoice and agreement for our accounts dept to check as I was unaware of anyone agreeing to this.

Just checked it out online and it is a scam.

Hmm, the tactics really don't change, do they?!

I had one of these calls 3 years ago - exactly the same technique only that was for the "Child Safety Initiative". Bet it is the same bunch.

They got a bit persistent with threatening letters so in the end I replied to them stating that I knew their operation was a scam and that the sending of any more letters would constitute an agreement by them to pay me the same value as their invoice for each reply I needed to send.

Sadly I didn't get anymore letters.... ;)

Might be worth contacting your local trading standards to bring it to their attention.

I think someone should write The Spam and Scam Encyclopedia.

There is a book called 'Greetings in Jesus Name! The Scambaiter Letters'
Its a collection of emails/letters from 419 scammers and this person/persons eggs the scammers on for weeks/months, getting them to do stupid things in the hope they will get some money. Quite funny what they get the scammers to do.

there's loads of websites about these scams unfortunately if you mention company names the scammers are quick to force removal.

This scam is very common for new businesses. They phone up and get info about staff working there and a 'password' so you know it's them. Then the following call a few weeks later has the usual 'thanks for your support (name) in your recent campaign do you want us to go ahead and send you some stuff'.
They make millions from unsuspecting businesses.
