Business Networking Meetings

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone might be able to give me some input into a little project that we are thinking of setting up.

We currently attend a business networking meeting on a regular basis but due to some issues, members are leaving. Instead of joining another group, we thought we would band together and set-up our own network.

In an ideal world, the idea will grow and we'll expand into other areas however, for now, we just want to operate locally with a few of us.

My question is, is there anything that I need to be concerned about r.e. insurance or anything else? The meeting will be paid for in cash on the day by people attending. It will be held in a local pub where we will have breakfast with coffee and networking afterwards.

Kind regards

James

Do your research. What can you offer that other groups can't/don't ?

How will you market the group?

How will you generate income?

Who do you see as your target audience ?

How will you operate outside on the initial group ?

A few areas to think about.

Insurance should be covered by the venue, - it is your responsibility to ensure this is the case

Is this a business in itself, or just a loose consortium?

The only caveat I would give is that bringing/keeping people at these events is rather like herding cats. Lots of promises, lots of excuses - budget on about 25% of promises actually turning up.

Depending on the venue, they may ask you to get public liability to specifically cover the event/meeting itself. And there may be specialised brokers and insurers that could help you with this.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association are usually very helpful with this type of query - http://www.biba.org.uk/

Hope this helps :)

Hiya,

I have set one up under my company, it's called Creative Networking (my company name is Creative Content Company) - we have to give our customers receipts and then pop these expenses and payments onto lour accounts (we make £1.05 per person which goes towards advertising of the event).

No insurance is needed as we are covered by the insurance of the venues we go to.

If you want any pointers / have any questions drop me a line?

Its very unlikely that you need any insurance. One exposure is damage to the venue caused by yourselves. For example if in a presentation a member used a ropey extension lead which caught fire - unlikely but possible.....
