business name ideas

hi everyone currently a newby to this website but have spent plenty of time on in the past.

I am currently battering my brain for a business name for a venture of mine.

I plan to start a property clearance business but struggling to think of an interesting name??

I also plan do other minor property jobs for example, garden clearances, gardening, house cleans etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated and will be interesting to meet like wise people who have had experience in a similar occupation

I have given my company a straightforward name but its two long.
which gets annoying when you answer the phone or for cheques invoicing and web/emails a year in we just use the first bit most of the time. so pick a name play with it think about it because its expensive and time consuming to change once you are getting your name out there

Being an internet company we decided early on to get a name which would never "brand" us something specific. It shouldn't say anything about what we do and that was for one specific reason.... we prefered not to be limited to doing a specific business if it turned out our idea wasn't good enough.

So we choose a "weird" sounding name which we actually bought from a domain company to make sure we could get the domain for a short word, which at that time was more important than the actual name itself.

The hard part was the first couple of years. It sounded a bit wrong, people wondered what i meant, but as time goes by, even the most weird business name can begin to feel naturally because you grow into it.

Through advertisement, saying it on a daily basis etc. it suddenly gets "non-weird".

The best part is that many customers feel that way to. Now we are no longer the company with the weird sounding name in many cases... Now we are the company they can remember the name of because it doesn't have a fixed meaning by it's wording, but the meaning is attached through time by us and our actions, branding and company values.

So the lesson of this is... if you plan to stick around for a long time, don't worry about the specific name and how it relates to you current businessplans. Choose a short simple word (made up even) which you can get the domain name for (your internet presence will only get more important through time, so plan for it now).

.. Then infuse it with your personal and company values through actions, public relations and marketing.

It's way easier than to try and brand the name: "Toms flowershop" or "amazing shoe store" or any other generic sounding name, people quickly forget.

when coming up with a new business name try and get abstract and don't use the word solutions under any circumstances lol.

You could try crowdsourcing a new logo using www.designcrowd.co.uk will cost you less than £200

Do a brain storm and write down as many words as you can on the business theme and then add a few abstract thoughts and you will eventually come up with something.

Its worth you checking www.companieshouse.co.uk and also the patent office before registering it however as it may already exist. It's 2013 its hard to be original so be creative. There are firms even making up new words to overcome the lack of words that are free. A good example of this is flickr!
