HI

Yes you read it correctly: BT have asked me to pay them £2000 deposit because apparently, the previous tenant at my office ran up a huge phone bill. I have sent in i.d. to prove who I am but BT are adamant that if I dont pay up my bt line will be suspended indefinitely.

Customers are trying to contact me, but all they are getting is a dead tone.

I have had the line a few months now, and this is out of the blue.

Anyone know what I could do ?

Try other phone providers, BT have to allow competition so you can get the lines connected through an alternative provider.

Also, you could set up an 0800 or 0845 number from your home address, this can be directed to any number, mobile or landline, and changed when needed. Because you set up from home it probably wouldn't be affected and would give you time to sort the problem out. ;)

1 - get cable
2 - port BT number to cable. If you cant, port to ITSP like Voipfone! You will have total control over your number!

BT cannot hold you responsible for something that was nothing to do with your company. Its up to them to contact the previous company. I would be a bit more forceful with them telling them you will claim your losses, etc and provide a solicitors letter.

Im sure BT are with in their right to charge £2000 deposit with any customer if they dont trust them or think there is some likeliness the same will happen.

The thing is, your title and desciption dont match. It wouldnt be a deposit if they arnt giving you the money back at the end of it.

Im sure you can take your number wherever you want to cant you? Even in business, so just contact another company and transfer your business to them.
