Hi,

Anyone ever been sold a BT Featureline for their fax/broadband service?

As a client was!! Apparantly sold it as it was cheaper than a standard fax line. What he gets is call forwarding!! Why you would want that on a FAX line I have know idea!!

Anyway, he does not received faxes some of the time. Could the fact that it is a BT Featureline working as a FAX line and braodband connection have something to do with it?

BT have tested the line and charged a £150 for the previlige so the cllient is just thinking of getting a new line purely for broadband!!

Good morning Rob

You should always run the telephone line and Broadband through the same line and a fax will have a seperate line. This would explain the disruption you are getting on your fax machine.

You need to downgrade the feature line as its useless if using it solely for a fax line.

Hope this helps. PM me if you require further assistance

Many years ago now....the advice was run your broadband through the fax line? (obviously I mean the phone line used for sending and receiving faxes) Not the telephone line? (by that i mean the main phone line in the office for making and reciving phone calls.)

That's interesting as the only advice I ever got from everyone and anyone that was selling broadband installations just kept saying stick the broadband on your fax line!!

Never mind :)

I think the client is annoyed enough to just go out and get a new line as the phone lines are ISDN I think!!

Which I presume precludes broadband usage on the phone lines?

Just had this reply from our technical department:

Nobody should have a feature line on one line because there is no point. Where do you transfer the calls to? We will downgrade this FOC to a standard PSTN line and offer great savings on the line rental

The main problem with BT feature lines is that they have been seriously mis-sold and BT have been told by Ofcom to have these all downgraded by the end of next year. Like I have mentioned we will do this FOC but BT will charge

He needs to start again. These days you don't need a fax line at all - you just send and receive faxes using the internet.

If he's got several lines he should dump all but two, put broadband on both and use VoIP over one and normal internet over the other.

@CJD - five year contract with BT puts an end to all thoughts of better/more cost effective phone solutions.

@Businesswise Solutions - Shows you what a bag of dog do-dahs ofcom is then if BT are allowed to make money out of something they mis-sold!!!

Maybe BT should be re-listed as a bank!!!!!

Make sure that your client is aware that the calls aren't contracted so those are free to move as and when.
BT also have to prove the contract, either by a copy of the signed contract or a copy of the voice recording confirming the verbal agreement. If they can't produce any of these then theres no contract to hold him to. We have saved our customers thousands of pounds by moving them away from BT, even if its just for the calls.

What other information do you require?

Not sure how long the contract is for Featureline

BT have just stated that they never have problems with Featureline!!

@Businesswise Solutions - Can you provide me with details of OFCOM findings of mis-selling?

@consultant - Five Year Contract with ISDN lines. Not with Featureline.

@cjd - Because the client is nuts!!!
