I've just updated a machine to vista - fresh install on new ssd drive

All went fine but I've been left with a problem I've seen before, maybe with this machine, but I've forgot how I fixed it. I assume it's some bios and just wondering if any knows.

All the searches I do on the problem bring up systems that don't start but this does and works fine.

But before it starts windows it sits with this black screen for a good 30 seconds, cursor blinking. Sort of spoils the reason why I moved the OS to a solid state drive

First boot is HD, floppy is disabled and the is no dvd in the drive so these are rules out.

I can only offer mostly questions, but these may provide some pointers:

Are you using your S-ATA ports in AHCI mode?
Have you tried un-plugging the SSD to see if the BIOS returns with no-bootable device quicker than 30 seconds?
Is the BIOS firmware the latest from the manufacturer?
Are you relying on Windows drivers, or have you loaded chipset drivers directly from the manufacturer?
Have you tried 'Safe Mode' to see if a certain driver is getting stuck?

Is this a desktop or laptop? Is "fast boot" enabled in the BIOS?

Is your DVD-ROM drive IDE or Sata? Try disconnecting it and any USB devices apart from keyboard and mouse then try booting again.

Steve

It's a desktop, bios seems setup, I have it in optimum apart from a few settings I have to change APG etc

I'll plug all the plugs but also have a problem getting my USB wireless adaptor to be recognised now so till I connect and do any updates I can't rule that out.

I did not know to make any sort of or boot repair disk so I do not have either of these and I do not know of anyone who is using windos 7 that could make me one to use. Also Dell puts the rstore on the hard drive so onlyhave a MS Works CD and a Drivers & Utilities CD l ran the diagnostics utility but forgot to plug in my computer so when it was almost done the battery must have died so will redo the test later as tired tonight as been up half the night with this issue. But for memory the first 6 of the 8 memories areas it was scanning tested fine. Will post an update later today when Iget chance to run the whole thing again!!
