Backup computer locked

It is a old PC with Windows 10 on it. It works a backup device for my main computer. I remembered the password was changed after upgraded from win 7 to win 10. Now it is locked due to wrong password attempts.

For me, reinstallation is not the choice as I have a lot of staff on it. Anyway to unlock it without data loss? any input would be greatly appreciated.

Give it to your local PC repair shop and they will fix it for you.

depends if it is connected to a Microsoft account, local account or AD. Either way
1.take the hard drive from the backup computer out and put in in an external enclosure or use sata from your current computer either way
2. copy the backup content from it
3. put hard drive back in and boot from Windows 10 installer / advanced options and reset. It should keep user data intact but you will loose the apps

Check also if you can RDC to it or copy data of via shared folder.

The simple answer to your question is yes. If you're really asking whether there's a way you can reset the password yourself, then the answer to that is also yes. But whether you should or not, will depend on your technical ability (and to a lesser extent, the hardware in question that your data resides on). If the thought of boot discs and command prompts even remotely makes you go "uh?" then use the advice of @fisicx - you'll save yourself a lot of bother.

Are you just talking about a normal PC with windows on it that is locked. If so, download a live linux CD like Ubuntu. Boot with linux, use it to access the windows drive (it will bypass all windows security) and copy the data off to another source. Then reformat and reinstall windows.

Give me a shout if you want a step by step, happy to help!

Just boot your PC from Windows 10 installation disk, and you can reset the forgotten password with "sticky keys backdoor".

If you want to use ready-to-use password cracking software, PCUnlocker or Ophcrack could help.
