Although not strictly an eco company each year I donate a percentage of my turnover to carbon offset projects in order to help reduce my carbon footprint.

Hope this helps..I have recycled paper since 1977 when our primary school of 90 pupils started giving newspapers to the scouts for recycling. Really forward thinking when you think about it.

lightbeing creations

Hi folks,

Have just signed up and figured I should stick my head in here to say hello.

My baby is Lightbeing Creations, an ethically run and environmentally responsible business that provides 100% solar powered web hosting and ethical website design.

Beyond providing truly 100% solar powered hosting, we take lots of other steps to reduce our environmental impact ( lightbeingcreations.co.uk/about-us/ethics-environment ) and are always working towards reducing our impact further.

Happy to provide more info or answer questions and also happy to be on-board here :D

Warm wishes
Dan

We use veg starch products. Do you have cups and cutlery too? Do they work with heat?

the cutlery we do have is made from renewable forests which work well with heat, unfortunately we dont have cups made from palm leaf as it is very difficult to stretch the palm leaf to a decent depth. I can send you some of our cutlery and some plates if you like? just pm me you details:D

And most of us waste huge energy through our un-eco houses: Here are some good Eco Homes in Cornwall, built by our friends local builder Percy Williams & Sons.

These guys are fired up about green and low energy homes, and in these houses in Hayle they have solar panels, eco heat pumps (which take heat out of the ground and pump it into your house), rainwater harvesting, immense insulation and an electric meter that puts electricity back into the mains from your house when you're making too much of your own. Oh and they're nice houses too, plus a couple of minutes from the beach. Beats me why anyone would not want to live in Cornwall :)

One guy says he hasn't paid for electricity yet. How does the saying go.... Conservation begins at home? I think a lot of this technology could be installed in any home so we could all do it, though the design of the home also makes it a great deal easier to be green, when the windows, walls and roof already have masses of insulation when the place is built.

Anyway this is not my business but I think its worth a mention.

Actually the calculator on the carbon neutral company is very helpful. We build our own servers so we easily work out the energy and while we work on clients etc in our office its caculated and that's as far as we go and we do plant a tree everytime we get a new client they get a certificate etc.

We are always looking at ways to improve.

1) My Blog: This contains many useful articles such as specs on recylced papers, a paper mill that uses straw to make paper, a bio degradable form of laminate, how to change attitudes to Global Warming, & many others.

2) Environmnetally Friendly Printing Emailed Newsletter

3) Talking Product Videos for Mobile Phones & Internet
(even Greanpeace UK loved my "Angry Cat" video).

I have only just joined this site within the last hour & I am not yet allowed to post URLs in my messages yet.

As soon as I can, I will post some lnks to the information mentioned.

Hiya ,
I run an organic / fair trade coffee shop at festivals and fairs etc.. The unit is built into the back of a van which uses solar / wind and L.P.G all the materials we use are recyclable and we have different bins for ease. It all goes down very well in the festival enviroment. We run the truck on bio diesel cos im a tight ass !!
make a god cup of coffee though.

ZipSafe have just started selling small cotton zip bags. The cotton is Fairtrade certified and is also organic - we think it is the best cotton you can get and our customers can feel the quality.

We are attending a Green Conference in Sheffield next week - looking at ways we can become more eco-friendly.

My company Wavecrest Ltd is involved in shipping, freight forwarding and warehousing.

We have been port agents in London for Greenpeace for several years now when their ships make courtesy/promotional visits.

On the freight forwarding side we mainly move goods by sea. When moving freight by road we usually try to back load vehicles wherever possible to reduce empty running.

We used to give business to a haulage company that fueled their trucks exclusively with bio fuel but unfortunately despite having Theo Paphitis as a shareholder they have succombed to the recession and are no longer trading!

Hi Kcolls74

I use corn starch void fill when I have it available. I love the stuff, and so do the packing pixies who keep making void fill masterpieces for me to find. LOL :D

I also had no idea it was possible to get hold of biodegradable bubble wrap in UK. Fantastic news. I cant bear poly bubble wrap and dont use it for my orders, simply because its non bio degradable even though it would be so useful.
I am chuffed to bits I can now purchase an eco alternative.

Please do PM me with min quantities and prices.
Im so glad you posted today. :D

Hi, our business produces a non-gm starch based loose fill protective packaging (fills the spaces in boxes!) as an environmental alternative to polystyrene.

I use this stuff in my orders - it's brilliant! I did a business talk one morning when we first set up. I started talking about our products, and then about our packaging and to get across that it really is safe and eco friendly, I ate a piece while talking to them.

That got their attention LOL. :D
