Are you a green/eco/fairtrade bizz? Post here to say hello

Hi everyone,

I'm a co-founder of a company called Carbon Retirement. We do a different type of carbon offsetting. If you're interested in offsetting I'd really encourage you to take a look at our site (the address is in my signature) or drop me a line.

We're a web development firm that works closely with an ethical brand & identity management firm <a href="http://www.scamperbranding.com/">Scamper</a>. We're working on the assumption that all you guys have a really interesting and worthwhile story to tell so we're putting together a web 2.0 site that will help people like yourselves engage with your customers. We're a pretty high-tech firm and we're working with Scamper to see how that can be put to good use.

Being an amateur astronomer for 22 years, coming from londons eastend, light pollution has been my main gripe.
It has robbed me from my biggest passion in life.

Anyway asides being a big player in www.skylive.it
This business helps people to see do some astronomy if they cannot get out, or indeed again hampered as i am by light pollution.

and organising star parties for people with light pollution issues and lack of instrumentation to view the stars
i am also building my own computer training company easyasIT

I am also a campaigner in the Campaign for darker skies representing northants.

Hi, just to introduce myself I am Tabitha from Mimimyne and I sell various organic, eco friendly and recycled products for children (clothing, furniture and toys). I've got some great designer-makers in the UK signed up with me and am always interested in hearing from others who would like to resell their products. I also stock some 'in-house' T shirts and am interested in producing some more eco friendly products aimed at kids later on, so I'm keen to chat with other people who are producing their own range organic/ethical products.

I can't post a link yet as I've only been a member for a little while but you can find me on Ethical Junction and Green-England!

Great to have this forum to meet like-minded businesses,

Thank you! Tabitha:)

My name is Sally Golland I run an online Gift company The Gluttonous Gardener we specialise in witty combinations of plants and edibles, all of our packaging is re usable, re-cycle-able or compostable, basically all plantet friendly materials. We also do a lot of corporate work - ie corporate gift, promotional gifts and also product launches.

Our gifts are a welcome change to the very boring hampers and branded mousemats that get sent out year after year, plus our living plant element means that our gifts act as a constant reminder of the generosity of the person who sent them for years to come.

Hi

Im Sharon and my company is www.huetouch.com, we specialise in Bluetooth Proximity Marketing or in laymans terms green eLeaflets :) as most towns and cities are being made leaflet free zones by local councils and governments, our pods are becoming more relevant. Although slightly more to buy than a box of normal leaflets, once bought these pods can be uploaded and used as a leflet distributor as many times as you like to peoples mobile handsets instead of the waste of paper it can be transmitted electronically and distributed more effectively than a person stood holding leaflets giving them out randomly.

If anyone is interested on how it works more I can send you a ebook on pdf with info in. Please PM me.

Sharon :)

I'm Glenn from TAG recruitment. We don't recruit Green staff however are about as Green as a recruitment company gets...

  • e-faxing - reducing paper usage
  • Video interviews - reducing travel and emissions
  • Energy saving light bulbs in all offices
  • Carbon offsetting - currently being implemented
  • Employee benefits for not driving to work
  • All office paper is from sustainable or recycled paper
  • All office paper is shredded and recycled after use
  • Staff work from home 1 day a week to reduce travel
Any suggestions for other things we could do would be gratefully received.

thanks

Glenn

Hi my name is Bruce,

Our product helps vehicle's burn much cleaner and also helps us get 20 to 30% more kilometers per liter.

Bio Petro Improver contains naphthalene as an active ingredient. (taken from your website)

EPA article about Napthalene http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/hlthef/naphthal.html

These people http://www.thedreambuilders.mybpi.com/management.asp are the same people that ran Bio Performance a few years ago - this is what Wikkipedia says about them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioPerformance

I'm not going to comment either way on why they are still in business or what happened.

Yes I do sell fuel treatment too, but I am independent, not part of any mlm or franchise. I did research and learn about many products and active ingredients before choosing one with an excellent reputation.

Hi Everyone,

( sorry about above - but I was aware of this around three years ago and only just found this post here tonight. This is no reflection on you Bruce as their website and sales information is very powerful.)

As for my introduction -Hi, I am Kay
My husband and I own Green East.

We started trading two years ago as K.D. Sales Ltd selling fuel treatment and trading as Dipetane Distribution. This year we decided to expand in line with the success and results shown by our customers and wanted to offer more products that help people make simple choices towards going green.

We meet and talk with all manufacturers before deciding to take on any product, we research the products and the competition and only when we are satisfied that we have found an excellent product at an excellent price, with an untarnished reputation, will we introduce it to our customers.

It is "our values" and "our reputation" for finding such products that our customers trust, in turn adding to their trust in products we promote. We have direct communication with all manufacturers, allowing us to give excellent support and product knowledge.

Apart from Fuel Treatment, we also have compostable plastic bags, made in the UK, chemical and alcohol free hygiene products from hand rubs to wipes (which have been a God send with my Parents both in hospital this month) and an all purpose surface cleaner and disinfectant concentrate, using only natural plant oils.

This week we have introduced our latest range from Sorrells Naturally - Body products free from parabens, sls's and other chemicals. Using natural, fair trade, sustainable ingredients - Sorrells Naturally are also Vegetarian friendly and all products on our site at present are vegan friendly too (no goats milk or honey). Hand blended in East Anglia, this is another outstanding range of products.

I truly love the business I am in and the people we deal with. If I can help anyone do just one little thing that they feel good about and it helps them do something greener - I'm happy. :)

I am struggling this year to improve our environmental policy

I revue our impact on a regular basis as we live in and use and environment that keeps us in business. Many of the actions we have taken in the past have saved us money so also a good impact on profitability.

As much as I can make out our two biggest impacts are

1. Power usage to dry hundreds of wet suits.
2. Transport fuel usage ( we have to transport thousands of customers on and of rivers and canyon each year)

I would really like to do something on that will reduce the impact of the above but my brain has stopped working on this one.

Any ideas?

Hi my name is sadie and i have just stumbled on this site.

I sell products like pure organic argan oil and organic rhassoul clay. As a beauty therapist i fully understand how the skin works and i know what people are looking for in products (like been effective, and less hype) so i source the best products from around the world so you don’t have to! the products i select are not only great for your skin, as the skin does absorb what we put onto it but also the environment, the less man-made chemicals we use everyday, all the better for the environment. If anyone has any questions about any skin concerns let me know

Thanks

Sadie

Hi my name is Peter and I am one third of The Whole Leaf Co. the other two Being my little bro and best friend Adejare. We started the company after my brother came back from Kerala India with an unusual item. It turned out to be biodegradable disposable plates that they use their in abundance. Unlike other ‘eco-friendly’ disposables, our renewable raw material does not go through an energy-hungry pulping process, we simply pick the palm frond wash it in locally sourced spring water and heat press it at high temperatures to form a plate, bowl or just about anything else you could serve food on.
We don’t use any chemicals whatsoever, we like to keep Palm Products totally natural.

With an extremely low carbon footprint, The Wholeleaf Co.’s compostable Products will mark any business or function out as doing the most they can for the environment.

The products have been certified compostable and food safe, 100 % natural and are biodegradable. They can be used in a microwave or oven. Another popular use is to use them for packaging foods, and natural beauty products using the square and rectangular trays. They have also been used for baking bread and cakes.

The products are fantastic but the true beauty in them is the story behind them.

India has an abundance of Areca Palm trees, which shed leaves every 21 days or so.
When the leaves fall to the ground, the farmers collect them all.
Some of the leaves are composted or used for earthworm farming but most of the leaves are burned.
We use some of the leaves to make plates and bowls and trays and just about anything else you might serve food from.
Well it’s not really us who make them. They’re actually made by people local to the beautiful forests where the Areca Palm trees are found.
The trees are usually found in rural areas where the local people are often marginalised and have difficulty supporting themselves.

Well that is The Whole Leaf Co. story, we have been trading for just under 6 months now and already we will be supplying Oxfam very soon and Sainsbury' s in April 2009.

To see any of our products just check out the website thewholeleafco.
