Are there any restriction or timing limits on running payroll?

We pay wages on 28th month

Just received an email from my payroll people telling me, as they are preparing for Christmas, they have run my payroll early this month.

I don't have a problem with this but just wondering if there are any time limits on running payrolls?

We just pay a monthly salary, same amount, 28th of each month, so assume no problem then.

The only time limits you have is that the payroll must be run on or before the date of payment to ensure RTI rules are followed. Even then, HMRC have changed their mind on this so essentially as long as the RTI is submitted before the 5th of the subsequent month there shouldn't be an issue.

A payroll can be run as early as you like. Running it after the employees expect payment will cause major issues. Running a payroll bureau myself, I ask my clients if they want to change their payment date in December and, unless they do, it gets run when it should.
