app cost = big pockets?

hi all,

i wanted to create an app, but have heard it is very expensive and i dont have much knowledge on cost and time in this field. ill give you the kinda lay of of the app

members pay £x to be a member and advertise there services

1) download the app
2) put in post code
3) see local profiles
4) make contact

abit like the Just eat app

has anyone got any information or buit anything similar?

£5K for the app then £50K for marketing. And the number of people who will actually pay to join is going to be zero.

They won't pay because there are far too many free alternatives. Remember also that you need advertisers and users. Unless there are loads of advertisers users won't use it and unless there are lots of users making contact advertisers won't pay.

What you want to do has been tried umpteen times before. I've built loads of websites with a similar business model and none of then could get enough paying members to be viable. In the end they all resorted to free membership and PPC advertising to get any income.

You are correct, app development is the easy part. The hard part is convincing the world to use it. This is where the money gets used up fast.

We do a lot of web and app development and it is the first conversation we have with clients. Are you aware that the app needs to be promoted? How are you planning to do that?

On balance though imagine trying to open a shop in every town in the UK, the cost is huge! Your budget for launching an App to the same number of people won't be as much as opening all those shops but it should still be a large budget.

I want to be a consultant brain surgeon as I hear they can earn a lot.

Can anyone help with ideas. Anyone done this before?

The "maker" culture seems to lead people to assume everything is easy, requiring no effort whatsoever on their part.

I think you've misunderstood what I meant by my first post, I don't want too make "another" just eat app.

I was using just eat as a template example of the app lay out the industry and genre is completely different.

From research there isn't a app like it yet that I've seen.

The reach out could potentially be 20,000+ businesses

With the potential too be government funded/backed/ advertised

How would you attract their target market to your app?
Why would they use your app rather than other advertising channels.

Why would the government want to back/fund it?

Target market: "self employed" members of a niche market or already employees of the industry that also can earn garner extra income

Social networking/government advertising, I'm on... share posts, x month free membership, oh I was looking for and found it here..

Other advertising channels are free, however congested and potentially a very low conversion rate, this would be a deviated "market place for that"

Why would the government back it? Cause it's one off there policy's that they plow millions off pounds into each and every year and they have 1, free advertising too all new employees and also 2) a database that hold proberly a huge percentage off current "self employed" personnel
