Making the assumption that they'll be plenty of gout suffering high rollers feasting on champagne and fillet steaks, paid for by company expenses, on this forum?:p

I'm reaching out on here as every chart I can find gives a normal level of 2.5–7.0 mg/dl. Mine is 4.9 and the doctor wants to double the dose of a medication I was put on a few months ago to get me down to 3.5?

I’ve had it a couple of times. First time so painful I went to my Dr who said it’s caused by too much red wine and red meat. From then on if I got it, I cut down on the red vino for a week and it cleared up for months. It did keep coming back until I discovered the ultimate cure, drink white instead of red :)

That's a typical story but the reality is that different people have different triggers and I can down a bottle of red without any comeback. That said it depends on what else you're eating and liver pate on toast, curry made with big mushrooms and ice cream - all high in purines and bad for uric acid, tipped me over the edge.

I started the thread as it's very hard to get consistent information from doctors.

I do, I've had it for years, used to have several joints affected at any one time.

I stopped drinking nearly 19 years ago and that improved things considerably. I've been on turmeric every day for the last two years and rarely eat meat and its now as good as gone.
I've heard that Turmeric is good for you, but haven't seen it put forward as a cure for gout so might give it a try.

Mt step brother died following gout and my half brother suffers from it.

To expand, when a teenager my step brother was found to only have 1 kidney and that was scarred, but he ran away to live with his nan who fed him fried food "he doesnt like veg" he ignored all dr's advise, was put on serious steroids to try and control things (he was so bad he could only crawl upstairs during a bout) which made him balloon to 20st by age 28 and then he had a heart attack which killed him.

My half brother (they share a father but not with me) follows all the advise he has been given and generally only get san attack if he is stressed and not drinking enough water

A quick update for anyone interested and suffering from the big 'G'......and a bit of a revelation after 10 years of quackery.

A friend suggested I see a nutritionist, not to lecture me on what to eat - I could write a book on what's bad for Gout - and with nothing to lose I had my first appointment a few weeks ago. She determined that I was intolerant to Wheat, Cows Milk, MSG and Soy so no more bread, cake, pasta, regular milk, cheese, yoghurt, Chinese Takeaways, chocolate, Costas, Custard Tarts (pretty much by daily diet) and all this on top of watching out for gout attack foods such as red meat, seafood, fructose, mushrooms, offal etc.,:eek:

The nutritionist's simple view, that having any intolerances running alongside issues such as gout, high cholesterol, blood pressure and the like will add to the workload of your liver and kidneys. Control the intolerances first.........

I can't pretend it's been easy. Pretty much everything off the Free From shelves in supermarkets should include on the label, 'free from taste and any sort of pleasure whatsoever'. BUT........
in a matter of days my feet started to feel better, in a fortnight I was marching into work and for the first time in several years not only is the gout under control but avoiding the intolerance foodstuffs, which weren't at a level that made me unwell, has fuel injected my overall wellbeing.

I suffer from it and it is usually when I try to match my food and drink budget with our diesel bill :):)

I have had it a long time but I am good at controlling it
As a distance runner it could spell the end so I take it seriously as you are not supposed to run on the roads with this problem

I try to keep my weight down
Drink lots of water (more than the average person
Do some sort of exercise every day Mostly running /long walks/ Weight training /A little bit of shadow boxing is good:cool:
Avoid alcs although Red Wine does not bother me but it is only at weekends I do get away with 3 pints in the Merry Harriers on Sunday afternoons
    I avoid all processed foods
    No chocolate
I still eat meat but keep on eye on the amount
Fish is always good for me despite doctors advising against some fish
I avoid cakes .pies sausages ,bacon, and GREGGSS!
I buy a lot of my meals from Subway and they are all salad based with low fat
My wife is a fantastic cook and all our meals are made from scratch
I eat lots of fruit and fresh veg

I drink too much coffee and the jury is out on that one
As sport is a big part of my life the motivation to make this work is higher than the average person who has better things to worry about
I also take CBD oil everyday

There is no right or wrong with this problem its about experimenting and seeing what works for you

I have 8 Staff in Manila, all under 45. Two years ago I had one with Very High Blood Pressure, 2 with Gout and another who was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic. I involved a dietician, along with the GP. One of the Gout Sufferers had spells of virtual disability, preventing Site Visits.

All are now far more healthy, and have lost weight. No more Gout, and even the Diabetic is on Reduced Medication.

We now alternate Rice, Bread, Pasta and Spuds - No more Rice 3x Per Day! Meat is bought Lean and not Fatty.

You probably know but Coffee is supposedly good for Gout, one recommendation to drink 4 cups a day.

    I've lost 5kg inside a month!
    Good News

Coffee never bothers me but I know somebody in Atlanta running a transport business and says Coffee gives him gout
Maybe they have different coffee over there
