Hi,

I would like to get some experience of owning a website that generates an income, however rather than set one up myself I would like to start with a pre-established site, therefore I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has a website they wish to sell?

I'm fairly open to the theme of the site, providing it is already established and can be proven to generate a monthly income, however small or big that may be.

If you have a site you wish to sell that fits this description, please send me a message with relevant details and the price you are looking for, I'll be pleased to take a look and discuss further.

My website is for sale, It currently has no traffic going towards it.
In which case it has almost zero value. The fact that you use yola means about the only thing you could expect to sell would be the domainname.

I'm planing on selling most of my sites in the new year for whatever I can get. But if you want to take one now I might let one go.

Pretty much got everything, the income can be generated but all will need pushing and the more you push & work the more you make. That's the reason I'm selling them, I'm bored with them and selling anything I can as I'm saving to go to Brazil in 2014.

Really depends on what interests you have, I could also just rent one to you for the year with a view to purchase if you think it's worth it.

But if you want to take one now I might let one go...

I might let it go is one of the phrases best avoided when trying to sell a site ;) as is "I'm not desperate to sell and i don't need to sell".

Starting by trying to create an unequal relationship reliant on your whims does not help a deal progress towards completion.

Perhaps, but I just stated the facts nothing to do with whims. I'm not desperate to sell but my thoughts at the moment are I'll take advantage of xmas and then put them all on some auction site starting at 99p each site no reserve.

Most the sites are Wordpress with a custom plugin, one is a directory and another an auction. These need someone technically savy or at least someone prepared to learn but not from me really. My only concerns about selling all the sites is it could create more work then worthwhile if the buyer doesn't have a clue.

My website is for sale, It currently has no traffic going towards it. I believe there is allot of money to be made, yet it just needs the SEO ranking and backlinks. It has a common and catchy domain.
The website runs through YOLA.com. So im not sure how i would sell the website, but if you know how to and wish to know more details please message me or leave a reply.

Brendan.

Thanks for the offer, however as fisicx points out it seems you only have a domain name to sell and after an established site not just a domain name.

A site that's earning money is not worth anything to most buyers unless what it is earning exceeds the value of the time the owner is required to put in (+ cost of capital if you want to be pedantic).

For someone just starting out, like the OP, it may appear to be a good idea to pick up an earning site, even if uneconomical, just to see the nuts and bolts and learn operation.

Even for them I would advise steering clear of the uneconomic, unestablished sites. There's no point devoting a lot of time learning how to put in $100 of time to make $10. There are numerous sellers in Flippa selling these $100-$200 sites for a living (see my stats tool). The large majority of those sites are bought by aspiring webmaster entrepreneurs and the large majority end up getting abandoned. My analysis shows that buyers of these sites, by and large, only end up losing money.

I have 2 sites that currently earn good commissions from reselling software. They rank position 2 organically for the product keywords and generate, on average, a monthly income of between £200 and £300.

If you are interested in finding out more, PM me and we can discuss...

Would be interested to hear more about these sites? Have sent you a PM.

Have had a few discussions with people so far, but still nothing that I have really warmed to, anyone else have a site they are looking to sell?

It depends if you want to buy a micro niche site or a major site. My advice is to make your own site. You have to be passionate about that topic/niche to make money. You will earn in a longer term this way because you have the know how/passion/interest in that website and you can twist and turn the website according to market trends and reap the highest possible rewards.

Why do you want to get some experience of running a website that generates income?

Generally the best way would be to build one yourself... that way you learn from mistakes as you go. Rather than make one big mistake that destroys an already established site that you paid a decent sum of money for.

Sorry I don't have any sites to sell but,
I agree with Suzuki about building your own site, there are plenty of applications around that can now help, just to list a few off of the top of my head:
Joomla
Drupal
Wordpress (more for blogging I believe but I have seen a couple of e-commerce sites around built on it)

So far I have found Joomla to be very easy to use and is very simple to customize, lots of free and paid templates, components and extensions to use, so you can build almost any type of site you wish with it.
Haven't really use Drupal or Wordpress but have heard Drupal can be difficult to get to grips with.

If you decide to buy a site one massive word of warning, make sure you check the sites reputation and not just the owner/company reputation,
use:
Web Of Trust
McAfee Site Advisor
Norton SafeWeb
Web Security Guard
Browser Defender
The last thing you want to have to do is try turning a sites reputation around once it has been marked bad, you may end up spending more time doing that than building your own site.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Tom

Would you be interested in a site that I recently closed? it was generating a small income, but I was working 3 different businesses and have now decided just to focus on the strongest one.

It was an online model shop, had around 1800 unique visits a month, was ranked no.2 on google for ixo models behind only the brand themselves.

I can give you more details of you're interested. The domain is currently parked, I dont think I can state the link here as I'm a new member.

I'm also willing to add all the additional extras at the right price, facebook page with 150 fans, twitter account with 140, google plus page with about 35 (last I checked on those, not exact), plus a blog etc etc.

I disagree. You can't do much worse than look on Flippa.

Flippa is a marketplace that specialises in listing low end templates. But till today you had no way of getting a clear picture of what was selling on Flippa and for what price. That's now changed.

I've today made public a tool that lets you query tons of information from the Flippa database. You can see how many sites have sold in each price bracket, you can see how traffic, revenue, PR etc., affect price .... and a lot more. As you'll see from one search I just did on that tool, almost all sites sold in the $0-$10,000 bracket were below $1,000. Change the price range on the tool and run the search again - play around - and you'll see that Flippa specialises in the sub $500 with a sweet point at about $200. Those, sir, are prices for templates, not revenue generating assets.

I have built small websites in the past using various CMS technologies, however have never monetised them, therefore rather than start from scratch I would like to take a pre-existing site that already earns an amount a month and then look to build on it. I guess I'm looking to come in part way down the line, I realise this may come back to bite me but nothing ventured, nothing gained :)

As for 'Flippa' having had a fairly extensive look at what they have for sale, most of it appears to be very expensive or very cheap, as for the very cheap sites, the majority of them appear to be people knocking up a very quick site and then trying to shift it for a profit, this isn't what I'm after.

I'm sure their are some gems amongst them all but they will be hard to pinpoint and I'm sure their are thousands of people on Flippa looking for these sites amongst all the others and I really don't want to get in a bidding war.

I'm just looking to buy a site from a private seller, where the deal works for both myself and the seller.

Information Regarding Selling our Website:

Can be run from home.

We have spent more than 1 year in setting primeromano website up to include both English & Spanish Languages.
i.e. Designing / Logos and Colours /Layouts - which our Admin features allows on this type of Website.
Our Webmaster did the main set-up of the Databases and some other features including the set-up for Pay Pal to process Registration Payment.
So far it has not generated any revenue , as it has been on the free mode since we went live
The idea being that any prospective clients would not be faced with a load of categories with only half a dozen adverts on each, as we have seen on many other Advertising Websites.
The Adverts/Members can be left on the Database for whatever free period is decided ,
or if required asked at the end of their free period if they wish to renew, and therefore generating some revenue , the Database has the ability to store Members email addresses for such purposes.
Some of the Members is due for renewal ,and therefore could easily bring in some Revenue.
Due to personnel circumstances it has become very difficult to take the Website any further, but I personally believe that someone with good knowledge, time, and foresight,
looking for a home based project may see the potential it has to offer.
You will notice that we have an Agents feature which really explains itself , and we offer 50% commission for every client signed up and paid.
Just as an example 1 x Agent getting 2 Adverts per day for 5 days will turn around 800 euros a week = 83,200 euros per year, half of which they receive in commission,
The Website receiving the other half, this is assuming they only get 2 x Adverts in the day.
We estimate the time taken to register the clients details and place the advert to be no more than 1 hours work for them, this is assuming that they only get 2 x adverts a day - they may get less they may get more, of course the more agents the more revenue it really comes down to multiplication.
We are therefore looking in the region of 35,000 euros. o.n.o. for the total ownership of the Website/ Back-up System and Databases etc.
We have a good amount of data available for any interested parties, this will tell them what the website is capable of achieving.

If you care to PM me with your personal details, I can give you my contact details and we can have a chat about a reselling site for software. We earned just over £1k last month alone from it (provable income) and its been well established for 2 and a half years...

Hi Dave,

Thanks for details of your website. I must admit I'm slightly confused as you say you have not generated any revenue, however you have adverts on the site along with a pricing policy? So have neither of these generated any income?

Also you seem to have lots and lots of ad's however I'm not sure how you have driven enough traffic to the site to get these?
